Thank you Speedy. This issue has escalated much further than I ever wanted it to. I appreciate you putting your foot on it and stopping it spiralling out of control. I am very sorry that I accused you of ignoring the PMs I sent - I was not aware of any problem as mine have been working fine. Im not a prick honest!

If you are willing to offer your help I am more than willing to accept it and would like to work with you to try and resolve this.

Its a shame that everyone can't resolve things like this peacefully. You have just warranted my stay on Digital World, thats if I dont get banned for having a pop at Mickie earlier today (who has really just been caught up in things but needs to support his mod team and members) ;)

Right OK I will post a new thread in the test&development area for us; check there later :) Lets turn this £50 down a drain into the best £50 ever spent!

So its worth buying a NAS then people? I might invest in one

Its worth buying a NAS drive but 3dfella has an NDAS drive which makes it alot mroe complicated. I have managed to compile the admin tool and looks like I've just got the drivers compiled; just about to test but cant guarantee anything. I could send source to the manufactureres for compilation but they state 'can be waiting up to 3-6 months'. A NAS Drive is highly recommended tho.

I've got a NAS Drive ..... but I still cant get it to go even with the digitalworldz image .... :(

Where abouts in pompey are you, I might be able to pop round and demonstrate for you...?!

Anyway in the meantime... which NAS drive do you have?!
Does it support samba? Have you configured it via the webinterface?
Have you set up a samba share (with password set)? Do you know its IP address?
If so, just connect it all up, then enter these values in the settings:

Driver: A3C LanDrive
IP Address: 192.168.X.X
Password: password
Mount point: /hdd (or /mnt if /hdd doesnt exist)
Then hit MOUNT NOW.

You do all that in the NAS settings menu, which you unhide by using
the menu customization feature. You don't need the plugin whatsoever :)

Once done, use your Windows PC to transfer a few pictures and mp3s
to the share. Then try looking in /hdd or /mnt for the files that you
just put on the drive. If you can see them, drop a note and I can go into
the recommended settings for recording/playback.

do novatech sell them? only down the road for me!

From Novatech:

The only drive that will 100% work with the DBOX2 is this one:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?lin-nslu2/&P=0

However, it only supports the connecting of USB hard drives/flash drives etc.
This means you can't use an IDE drive with this NAS enclosure.

These drives are not NAS but "NDAS", at present they will not work
but a driver will soon be made available once the manufacturer gets
back to me with the appropriate files. I would avoid these drives if
at all possible because the driver may well be flaky:

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?FRE-24358
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NGR-SC101
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?FRE-24359

In fact, I would stay clear of all the above drives from Novatech, as the
only one that will definately work is the USB hdd one, and I'm not sure
whether the speed of USB1.0 will be able to handle direct file recording.
It would work but may be blotchy and possibly even unwatchable.
Playing back would be fine however.

So Novatech do sell them, albeit at high prices and I wouldnt recommend
any. I can find other websites if you wish.

Havent seen or played with one before but looks like it has plenty of features and a very nice drive ;) The prices I've seen put me off slightly :p but hey, if it works, go for it!

Just to answer your questions ....

which NAS drive do you have? = The one u recommended up the top of this thread

Does it support samba? = yep :)
Have you configured it via the webinterface? = Yep

Have you set up a samba share (with password set)? = Yep
Do you know its IP address? = Yep 192.168.1.223

If so, just connect it all up, then enter these values in the settings:

Driver: A3C LanDrive = it says USBex Lendrive
IP Address: 192.168.1.223
Password: password
Mount point: /hdd (or /mnt if /hdd doesnt exist) = No mension of this on the config page

Then hit MOUNT NOW. = nothing to specify if its worked or not ???

Yeah I just checked the image itself and the team used an older version of my NAS settings page so the mount point option wont be there :) But no worries, I have checked the source code and it sets it as default to "/mnt".

You also dont get any indication that its worked when you hit the "Mount Now" button. The thing to do now is to put a few files on the drive (as a test, put 2 mp3s and 2 jpegs onto the drive) and then use the Tuxbox Commander plugin (should be on Blue Button menu, might be listed as "File Manager") to navigate to the /mnt folder and see if you can see the files. If you can then its worked.

If its worked then you can proceed to setting up direct file recording. All you'll need to do is set it up in the normal manner, the only difference being that you'll need to set the recording directory to "/mnt" :) Let me know how it goes.

@Speedy did you ever find out if the "the recording failed as it failed to write the data fast enough" errors were just down to sagem boxes? Or is it something fixable?

Just tried out the digitalworldz image and used your installer but I still get those errors no matter which mounting option i chose (usbx lan drive/ftpfs/samba etc). Was the same with the other image that had NAS support.
