NAS Drive ... fully working with Direct Recording and Streaming :)

It worked! At least before a reboot it did!

Once i rebooted for some reason my network settings have been changed, ip address of box, dns server address is now the same as my nas drive and im unable to change them at all.

Try and do anything in the nas menu and the box reboots?

Any ideas speedy mate?

Definately progress though because it did mount and i could see my test files!

Thanks

@Speedy did you ever find out if the "the recording failed as it failed to write the data fast enough" errors were just down to sagem boxes? Or is it something fixable?

Just tried out the digitalworldz image and used your installer but I still get those errors no matter which mounting option i chose (usbx lan drive/ftpfs/samba etc). Was the same with the other image that had NAS support.

I have managed to fix the error message in the past just by playing around with the recording options. If you have a tinker with the values for Ringbuffers and O_SYNC and things like that then you'll eventually find the values that work best with the drive :) Also remember that you should be using a drive with 7200RPM to get optimum performance.

Image may have become locked. I'm not sure how much free space is left in the DigitalWorldZ image. You should reflash the image to clear it of all the crap. Then I'd recommend that you try deleting just one of the cam's so that you have a bit more space to play with (for example, delete /var/bin/mgcamd if you dont use that one). Then use the installer again. Reboot the box and then try mounting the drive. Remember you only have to play with the NAS settings and nothing in the network menu.

My MSN is, add me on there as I refuse to be a part of this site any longer... Same goes for anyone else that might want my help - you wont be getting it here anymore, so either add me or lose contact. Simple.

Anyone got this plugin to hand? or is it in latest images?

I'd also like some more information having recently purchased a nas enclosure. Nokia x2 box, which image would be preferable to use the nas drive? Whats happened to speedy2006, has anyone got his MSN address, it didn't seem to be posted above.

Thanks as always

The latest Sportster 1.08 has samba support which will be able to mount to a NAS but I failed in doing so. Although the writeup says it has samba support, I think there's a few things that need to be ironed out.

You will find speedy on other forums if you search about!

Thanks DevilDude

Found speedy and awaiting a reply there. If I can find any other info I'll post it here.

pretty sure the jtg image has samba support.
never tested i don't have a nas drive.

has anyone here got this thing working?
I've tried several images, apart from NG they all mount and record fine but trying to play back recordings,mp3's or pics just result in box locking up...

Hi,

So to summarise this thread, Speedy has now left (?) the forum, and folks are still struggling getting NAS drives to work.

I can't seem to see any plugin either, on the downloads section for either the Dreambox or Dbox. Does anyone know what it's called? Did speedy remove it?

For my part, I've brought a SAMBA lan enclosure which accepts an IDE drive (called LAN DISK USB 2.0 with no manufacturer) from fleabay, which looks like it might be the same as what others are referring to, and I'm using the Jack the Grabber 2.0 image on a Nokia dbox. Do I need the plugin and it's seperate menu settings, or can I just setup the recording and movieplayer sections to point to this instead of my PC?

I'm sure more and more people will look at the NAS option, as it seems to be a good idea on paper, at least. For this reason, can some of our more experienced members who have it working, come to the rest of our aid, to enable us to use it in the same way? How about someone writing a guide? (I'm happy to do that bit, if someone can help me get mine working).

Sorry to have written so much!! Is there anyone out there that can help me?

open the drive and check it uses the RDC chipset 2882 ,most of these drives do.Then check which firmware its running. If its lower than NAS BASIC-45 (which it almost certainly will be ),reflash the drive.Theres an upograde tool included with the firmware although you can do it via the web-interface.
After reflashing reboot the drive (I had to power-cycle).You'll probably find the drive has been re-branded as the same firmware is adapted by several manufacturers.
On the dbox go to mount network volume:
select FTPFS,enter IP address of drive, share is PUBLIC,user admin, password admin.
The rest of the settings for recording, etc are the same as for recording to PC and are in all the helpfiles (cant remember them all off the top of my head),and thats it.Working fine for me on Dons Specialist,Sportster pro,JTG and NG.

No plugins required!

Hi Psul,

Thanks for the info & firmware.

I've looked at my unit, and it's running NAS basic-43 loader 67, so yes, it is lower, and I'm happy to apply the update if it will do any good!

Just to check, can you please confirm if we are talking about the same device? Heres what mine physically looks like;

Last thing I wanna do is screw it completely!!!! :)

Got this unit too,

I flashed it with the attached firmware, and its working fine here :)

Thanks!

Thanks Iceman!!!!

Do you happen to know what the differences are between versions!???!

(in other words, is it worth upgrading for 3 revisions) ?

No luck for me I'm affraid.

Tried with The Don v2 & Jack The Grabber. Upgraded my NAS to the two formware version attached above but still same.

Tried to mount via web interface but it just hung up and killed the nhttp.

Aw well, back to CIFS mount and PC.

Thanks for the above anyway!
