Music and Cd music

hi guys, i have a sllight problem and i dont know what to do. I can play dvd's HD dvd's and games all fine in 5.1 but when i try and play music from hdd or cd all i get is the bass but no actuall audio. If i change the audio setting to dolby stereo its fine but 5.1 doesnt work. It worked earlier today and tunred it off then later tryed music and didnt work. I have changed the optical cable and same thing, any advice on what to do?
