Anyone had a fixed penalty fine, allegedly I was doing 42 in a 30 zone???

I actually after getting the ticket from the man with the radar gun, tried to do 42 on this road and it felt like I was flying!!!

There was no way I was doing 42, I am not saying for one minute I am innocent lol... I could of been doing 35 or something like that but no way was I doing 42!!!

The worst thing is I can either go to court or pay the fine, where is the part where I can ask for a copy of the calibration certificate??? or alignment tests on the device???

There is no paper appeal, just accept it OR go to court, yeah that's fair????

I have never had any points, really annoyed lol.

Fookers lol... guess we all moan when we are caught doing something ;)

I am going to pay it lol, and take the points, its only £60... but just what if lol.

Mick

Thats a bit of a bummer mate... I think it is you either pay the £60 and take the points or risk it in court.. But i think they would come down harder if you go to court... I guess it is one of them.. pain in the arse really. When my friend went to court she got 6 points and a £200 fine... She is regretting it now as if she just took the fixed penalty she would have saved herself a few bob and avoided 3 extra points

Mick you don't have to take the points on your licence you can take this speed awareness course instead m8. My friend took the course and it saved him his licence and high insurance costs due to penalty points. Have a read of this and you should be given this option in writing.

Miggy that is a great link.

To be fair, I am not sure if I was speeding or not mate, so I would say I was lol.

It's not funny, someone could get hurt, I'll take my fine and points on the chin!!!

However do I need to notify my insurance people about it, and on that matter, when I get the points and I have an insurance renewal do i need to tell them as my renewal is usually automatic?

Cheers all

Yes Mick you do need to tell your insurance. Some companies are ok with 3 points and the priemium is not loaded some load it.
I was with kwik fit ins and they were gonna stick £30 on my priemium due to the 3 points. I got a better deal elsewhere tho :)

Unfortunately you run the risk of your insurance being void if God forbidden anything happens and you haven't reported the points,. So be very careful what you decide mate.

Miggy.

Out of a matter of intrest.. do people have to request to go on the course or does it come with the nip? Looked through the site did not give me info on that?

Always let your insurance know, not worth keeping secrets from them.

Can't believe you automatically renew though. Even if you don't shop around it's usually worth a phone call, normally they can knock a few quid off. I'm staying with Hastings, 3 weeks to renewal, as Go Compare etc couldn't beat the renewal price they sent me but I called Hastings up & asked if they could do anything on the price & the lady said immediately she could take 23 quid off. Made some slight changes to the policy, mainly reducing the yearly mileage & taking my old dad off the policy as he no longer drives and the new renewal price is 70 quid cheaper. Defo worth a phone call.

Apologies for going off-topic.
HH.

I have been on the course

There is a limit up till which you are eligible to go on the course.

* The initiative is aimed at those caught speeding just above the limit and will only be open to people caught breaking the speed limit by 10% + 9mph or less.

The Offer to go on the course usually comes after you send off - the first notice off - saying you were the driver and the driver details. and if you are eligible to go on the course

here is a link which might give you more details on who can go on the course

and this is the site who are involved with the Course

My wife has just booked to go on one but she was doing 38 in a 30 limit. I think you may be outside the limit for the course if they have clocked you at 42 in a 30!

Now I think of it, the first letter didn't mentiona fine, it was the offer of speed awareness so I don't think you will get the option sadly! I could be wrong, I hope so.

You can't request to go on the course, they will offer it to you when you get the notice. I'm pretty certain that 42 in a 30 zone is too fast. When I went on the course the fastest driver who had been offered the course was doing 38 in a 30 zone, the slowest was 35 in a 30 zone. The figures do vary around the country slightly but I don't think any of them would offer the course for doing 42.

For anybody want to challenge a ticket have a look here,

Speeding Fines UK

I will also say that the chances of winning an appeal are not great.

Sorry I didn't reply yesterday fruitball 5 mins into the England match the whole VM network was down in my area and its only just come back on. oneman has answered your question m8. You cannot request to go on this course it is purely up to the Police to decide. If they think you are entitled to this course they will post a letter to you offering this course to you. You will not beat the Police though if you have been caught speeding that's it unless you have a footballers or Executives Lawyer m8.

I like that Napster nasty barstewards them Man United fans

i did the speed awareness course, what a waste of half a day of my life that was lol.

if it was a hand held radar gun, moving the unit as little as 1mm while taking a reading will massivly affect the readout, they have recorded dogs walking at 30mph, and walls travelling at 9mph, all while holding the gun 'with a steady hand'

Which is why I'm a member of Drive Protect

If you get caught, you just give them a ring and let them have it thrown out of court :D

@oneman
The chances of getting speeding fines overturned are actually very high when you have the right representation :)

which means spending more money then the fine. Be interesting to hear how much you pay for drive protect ?

Most insurance companies don't care about one speeding offence. Its when you start getting multiple ones that the premiums go up.

At the end of the day, simple answer is not to excessively speed all the time.

£13/month. Used service 3 times and succeeded on all 3 after being caught by mobile traps.
GATSOs are easy, you just slow down (unless you're driving towards the lens as they only work one way)
Average cams, not a problem, just change lanes..

Speeding is not about safety, it's about revenue..
They setup concealed traps on hills to catch you at 35mph and I for one am not about to dance to their tune..

They even setup scenes that look like a family caravan broken down, just to place a camera inside them...

They reduce the limits to raise revenue and people are fookin sick of it. One camera near me raised £1m in one year and the council agreed its presence wasn't due to a high accident rate, they claim that as people complain about accident blackspots having no attention, they decided to erect one to prevent future accidents.. wtf...

All that has happened is, as the road is a 4 lane dual carriageway with 1 left, 1 right and 2 centre (straight on) lanes on a slight left bend, people get easily confused by 1) the lanes 2) the concealed lights [blinkered so you only see them when you're really close] and end up increasing their risk of jumping the lights or crashing as they're now concentrating solely on their speedo and not the junction...
Of course the slimy cnuts made sure they installed Truvelo cameras both sides to trap both directions and get your face rather than just your rearend...

That is a perfect example of how these traps INCREASE the risk...

How many times have you been in a queue, passed a GATSO and then found no oncoming reason for the queue...?
Me, loads of times and especially on cams that are on a dual carriageway..
People slow down way below 30 (even if the camera is set @ 40) which then produces a ripple effect which brings traffic to almost a standstill for no reason.

They're a fookin nuisance, return no significant reduction in accidents and exist purely for revenue. :grayno:

& my other reasons for having DP is that I have keyfob protection (reward if lost keyfob is found) and chauffeur insurance (driving my own car if I am banned) and like4like car rental if mine is involved in an accident...
(not bad, considering I drive BMW's V12 flagship :D)

I've said it before and I'll say it again...
Main roads: 40mph
Motorways: 100mph
Dual Carriageways: 70mph
Residential/Schools etc: 20mph

Simple, no need for endless fookin signposts and limit changes every 100yards and people might go back to looking where they're going instead of reading endless signs in between watching their speedo..

SPECS is not fooled by you changing lanes.

As for being caught, drive sensibly and you won't be.
