Liverpool News

I have to be honest here being a UTD fan, i didnt expect him to move to Liverpool as i stated earlier.

But i hope he gets sold to someone else for the way he went about this.

if his heart is not at UTD he should move on, otherwise i wouldnt let him play a first team game this season.

sorry if this upsets you Liverpool fans , but your probably better off without him, i dont rate him as a lgood eft back anymore, as we have Silvestre and Evra in that position.

it will be interesting what happens now.

i see in the paper today ref has said sorry but its a bit late now

A Letter From Luis Garcia

Luis Garcia 21 August 2007

Having now settled into a new career and a new challenge with Atletico Madrid, Luis Garcia has sent a letter to liverpoolfc.tv to share with Reds fans all over the world.

Dear Reds,

First of all I'd like to apologise for not having been back in touch sooner, but I needed to take some time to take on board all the recent changes and then to put down these words for you.

I'm sure you will understand.

I would rather this be a letter of thanks and gratitude, not simply a goodbye.

Yes, that's right, gratitude, because that is the word that best sums up my feelings for you all.

Taking the decision to change clubs hasn't been easy. Not easy at all.

I've experienced three fantastic years at the club and in the city. Three years in which together, the fans and the team, we have accomplished some fantastic achievements, and I'm sure that these successes will continue to be repeated in the near future.

You know that I like a challenge and that I don't just settle for second best.

Back then Liverpool Football Club gave me the opportunity to be part of an ambitious plan to put the Reds back at the summit of the game.

I think that together we managed to achieve that.

As I said, I do like challenges and in spite of the fact that at that time I was playing for my home town club, one of the biggest in the world, I wanted to be a part of that project that was being presented to me by Liverpool, and so I accepted the challenge.

Now, after three seasons in the Premier League and having won some major trophies, the chance came up for me to return to La Liga and be part of a new project at a club I already knew.

The idea of enjoying things in a Spanish club like we experienced together at Liverpool over these last three years appealed to me, and that's why I accepted the offer.

I want to thank everyone working at Liverpool Football Club for how well they have treated both my family and I, making us feel at home from the very first day to the last.

I also want to thank the management, coaching staff and directors for the opportunity they gave me back then to be part of such an important and well-loved club as Liverpool. A club which has helped me to grow as a footballer and where to date I have enjoyed the biggest success of my career.

Without a doubt, this success has been possible thanks to the outstanding group of players with whom Ive been able to share a dressing room over the last three seasons.

I'm not going to mention anyone specifically, because I think that the secret of this team's success has been exactly that: nobody wanted to stand out above the rest and there has always been a great togetherness in the squad, which made it into something more than a group of players, it was a group of friends.

Thanks to all of you for your help and your friendship.

I've left until last the thank you which for me is the most important: Thank you to the supporters.

Your support allowed me to settle quickly at both the club and in the city, and you made me feel really at ease with you all right from the word go; that's the kind of help that you notice most of all during the difficult times, of which there have been a few during my time here.

I'd like to especially thank you for making up a song for me and you should know that every time I heard you singing it, it was like an extra injection of strength and motivation, even helping me to overcome pain occasionally during a game.

Your unconditional support is the thing that ensures that this team manages to pull through in the most difficult circumstances; and I can assure you that the whole squad is aware of this and thanks you for it.

A football club isn't just made up of players, coaches and directors. More than anything else it's the supporters who make a club, and that perhaps is the ingredient which best distinguishes Liverpool Football Club from every other team. The supporters.

Because if one thing has remained obvious to me after these few years, it's that with supporters like you, Liverpool Football Club will never walk alone.

I really hope that the club wins lots of major trophies in the future; I'll be following it all from a distance, with the pride that you can only get from having been a Red and played for the home team at Anfield – a ground that every football fan must visit at least once in their life.

Thank you for everything. Yours most sincerely,

Your friend, Luís García

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez was happy after his side's 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, but the Reds must now wait for news on injuries to Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher.
Speaking at the post match press conference, Rafa confirmed Hyypia had a suspected broken nose and Carragher could possibly have broken a rib.

Goals from Momo Sissoko, Liverpool's 7000th league goal, and Andriy Voronin gave the Reds their second away win of the season and Rafa was quick to praise his players.

"The team was very good and we showed we have a better squad this season," enthused Benitez. "It was special for Momo to score our 7,000th goal and he's now in the record books.

"I thought Torres, Voronin, Pennant and Babel caused the Sunderland defence a lot of problems. We created a lot of chances and we could have finished off the game a lot earlier.

"It's not good as a manager for my heart seeing us miss chances, but Voronin scored a good goal to get us the win."

Their keeper was Man of the Match, so we must have done pretty well. I saw it on TV and was really pleased by the way we played. It was efficient at the back, dominant in the middle and had flair up front...despite losing to players to injury.

Playing a Roy Keane team, the ironic thing is that Hyppia's injury was a pure accident and Carra was injured by our own keeper!

Liverpool have confirmed Jamie Carragher sustained a broken rib during Saturday's 2-0 victory over Sunderland.
Tests on Sunday morning also revealed the defender has developed a pneumothorax.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Sami Hyypia broke his nose at the Stadium of Light. However, he trained at Melwood on Sunday and is expected to be fit to face Toulouse on Tuesday.

Club spokesman Ian Cotton said: "Sami has a broken nose but will be available for the second leg of our Champions League qualifier.

"Jamie underwent a series of investigations on Sunday morning which confirmed he has a broken rib and has also developed a pneumothorax. He will continue to be monitored on Sunday but at this stage no further treatment will be required."

Palleta has been sold to Boca Juniors, not good timing considering our 2 centre halfs sustained injurys in the last game.

It is unfortunate timing, but Hyppia's not injured (he should play on Tuesday) and Paletta isn't really up to the task.

BTW there are rumours that Rafa is still interested in Vincent Kompany, but he'd expect to be first choice.

Rafael Benitez has today confirmed the Reds will be without both Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard for the second leg of their Champions League qualifier with Toulouse on Tuesday night.
Carragher is still recovering from the rib injury sustained against Sunderland at the weekend while Gerrard is nursing a broken toe.

"Both players will not be available for this game," said Benitez, whose side lead 1-0 from the first leg in France. "It's a shame because they are both important players for us, but we have enough players and enough competition within the squad to cope.

"Carra is improving which is good news. I need to talk to the doctor to find out more and to see how long he will be out for.

"It's clear that with Steven we need to take care of him. He could be available for the game at the weekend but we'll have to see. Again I will need to talk to the doctor first because I don't want to run the risk of losing him for a long time.

"This week we will keep him training and keep him fit and then see about the Derby game on Saturday."

Sami Hyypia is fit to play, however, after breaking his nose at the Stadium of Light.

"I think he will be okay," added Benitez. "The break was in the right place and so I don't think it will be a problem for him.

"We have Sami and Daniel Agger available and we can also use Arbeloa as a centre back so we have enough players in that position."

Sebastian Leto will be handed his Reds debut in tonight's Champions League qualifier against Toulouse.
The Argentine, who celebrates his 21st birthday next week, starts on the left side of midfield, while Yossi Benayoun patrols the right on his home debut.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva could also make his debut after being named on the bench.

The Reds line-up in full is: Reina, Arbeloa, Hyypia, Agger, Riise, Benayoun, Leto, Sissoko, Mascherano, Crouch, Kuyt. Subs: Itandje, Finnan, Torres, Alonso, Pennant, Babel, Lucas.

Leto played well in the first half. Didn't really notice him much at the start of the 2nd which is why I guess he was taken off. Harry Kewel should be worried.

Rumours are that Chris Coleman is seriously after Kewell. Harry always seemed to take more than he gave to Liverpool. I won't be sad to see him leave.

We too mate. He always seems to be injuryed and when he does play he is not 100% fit.

In my opinion he showed streaks of genius at times but these have been far outweighed by his laziness and injury prone stretches i too will not be sad to see the back of him.

deadwood imo

p.s any one got any info on the lfc channel when does it come on line, is it via Setanta ?

Rumours of a bust-up between Pako and Rafa have been circulating. I don't know if it's true or someone stirring things up. If it's as bad as has been reported Pako may resign.

I thought Leto was out of his depth He looked in awe of everyone but Lucas !! he is going to be some player .Slotted in like he had been there for years
