is there a contrast setting that can be changed on it at all?

Laptops screens are slightly different to pc screens, the connector for them is normally right next to the hinge, so dropping on that area could actually be quite bad for it - is this where it landed at all?

It could also be as simple (he says) as the connector may have worked itself loose - tricky part is getting in there to reseat it withough breaking the rest of the machine. What model is it?

Right cheers for replys lads its only a patriot 3070 via ,just checked it and there,s no adjuster for light .
But there is eight screws holding lid on M,mmm .

You could remove the casing from the lid, if you take your time removing the eight screws you will be fine. If the connection has not come undone and the screen is not cracked than its your invertor which are usually about £5-£10.
