Kindle help

anybody point me in the right direction of kindle stuff? im confused, theres so many formats of books. i would like pointed in the right direction of a kindle tut for noobs. I dont want to tinker until i have the info on how to just in case i brick it. also i would love a link to a good book place as the usual places dont have a great deal of content. any help, pointers would be appreciated.

download calibre from here. also watch the demo etc. Any formats other than mobi you get covert to mobi and send to your device.
