Hi guys with news of the jailbreak out I have a chance to buy my friends faulty 40gb phat ps3 from him for £70. He says it doesn't play any disc in the drive so sounds to me that the laser needs changing also can I upgrade the hard drive to it as well so my questions are:

1) Is it worth £70 to start with
2) Is it easy to change the laser or easier to replace drive
3) how much is a bigger hard drive

Cheers for all your help guys

£70 is about the going rate for a faulty ps3 which does not play discs.

repalcing the laser, (if your going to do yourself) can be about £40, if you get someone to fit and supply, you could be looking at between £80-100.

I have replaced my 40gb drive with a 320gb, but im sure it takes a 500gb too

Anyone please correct me on the above, if i am wrong

i dont think you can replace the whole drive as the drive is married to the board (i tried and failed). I replaced the lens its a pretty easy job the only thing you have to be careful with is the mechanism.
