Is my 500S dead?

Hi guys,

I think I've crashed my 500s. It was left overnight on standby and whenever I turned it back on it hung on startup. I reflashed it using DreamUpLan and it started but was not reacting properly e.g. not going into standby, not finding channels etc. Now it won't start at all and I cannot FTP it.

Is it dead?

try reflashing it again with dreamup and a serial null modem cable

when you start the flash procedure it should ask you to do a flash erase and use that option this should help

I only have a laptop and a mediacentre pc which do not have serial ports. There is also no space to put a pci card in the pc. Is it possible to use a null modem cable with a usb adapter?

yes it is.I have a serial port on my computer and that did not work.

I got a a cheap and nasty usb to serial from fleabay and it worked 1st time!

Hi

Bit of advice, if you do get a usb to serial cable , make sure that you get a
driver disk with it. Cos without it you,ll have problems.

Okay I've purchase a USB to Serial R232 and A Null modem cable off eBay.
