iPhone Iphone questions??

I am new to these Iphones but just got one for the wife, its a used 3g version,

These questions might seem stupid to you guys in the know

I'm not sure of the firmware of the phone just yet as it's charging but is it best to update to the latest firmware and will I need itunes to do this??

Do I need to use itunes to jailbreak or can I just connect the phone to the computer to transfer any software (blackra1n) across??

Also, is Cydia included in the blackra1n software or do I need to download??

cydia is included in blackrain or rock or both

updated to latest software 3.1.2 via itunes.

install blackra1n on your computer

use blackrain to jailbreak your iphone (this will install blackra1n on your iphone)

install cydia....

install snow if you wish you unlock your iphone
