Hi all.
Long time ago, feels like centuries, I messed about with motorised satellite systems.
I didn't have an addiction to it, so wasn't into all the latest stuff, and not having much interest in watching TV for any length of time, it was just basically a little tinkering hobby which I gave up after losing too many dishes and stuff due to very high winds where I lived.
I recently moved house and now the rear of the high faces due south with a clear line of sight, so I have been thinking of tinkering again and fitting a disk on the rear wall would be cool.

I have a dreambox DM600PVR with cable tuner which to be honest, hasn't even had a weeks use since I bought it and added a hard drive. I had considered getting the sat tuner for it but I think I would ditch that idea and just go for a receiver with built in controller for the dish.
For a while now I've lurked around the sat stuff here, and had a look at what seems popular but I would welcome some advice from those with experience in sat stuff these days.
I would like a setup that allows general sat channel browsing. I have no real need for the latest movies or porn :)
The only think I would be interested in as a bonus would be maybe some footy :)
So, I'm looking for probably a complete hardware package, receiver, dish/motor and mount. Not sure if I should bother with HD receiver although if it wasn’t too much more expensive, and it could do everything that a suitable no HD receiver could do, then why not?
Not being too bright on the subject, it looks as though some of the Technomate sat boxes can do just what I'm looking for, and with a little "patch" or 2 can even open up some of the not so secure encrypted channels.

So, would anyone care to offer advice as to which receiver could be the best all rounder for my meager needs, and possibly suggest a suitable supplier?
Cheers.

I think modern technomates will suit you. The 5400 will give most options with as much future-proofing you can get from a low budget set up, or the 5200 will save you money and do the same but just limits future expanding. They both provide great value and are simple to use, with a fast blind scan that helps if you are 'tinkering' and searching the skies.
The alternative to these would be newer 3000 range- TM3100, TM3200, TM3300 or the TM3500 ~a model to suit everyone lol. I think currently i'd go for a tm3300 if i was buying for myself.
Hope that is some help & hopefully others will give their views too.

Thanks for the pointers, I'll have a look at that range of boxes tomorrow.
