HTC Hero Problem

Ok I have an old HTC Hero from T-Mobile, I think they called it the G2 when I got it, contract has expired for over a year now. My youngest daughter wants it so I gave it to her last night, she has now put an unlock pattern on the thing and she's forgotten the pattern, so now I cannot get into the phone as I was going to buy an unlock code from eBay or somewhere. It's not unlocked/Rooted or anything else, I tried using my Google account when that option came up but no joy, I've managed to get into the screen with the 3 Android characters along the bottom of the screen but I have only about 2 or 3 options none of which seem to say Factory reset or clear data etc, is there any other way to recover this phone?

Oops almost forgot, I have the original SIM card yet but obviously there's no credit on it, if that helps

I don't know if you want to root it. As this flashes a new image, all the settings will be gone.
