Morning,

we've recently had a lot of burglaries around the area and i'm interested in getting some cctv cameras put up.

Can someone recommend me some decent cameras? i know very little of any CCTV equipment.. so any help will be appreciated.

I'm looking for good quality cameras with a recording box.. (3 cameras)

regards

I set up my old mans last year to watch his garden.

2 x 420TV CCD Line colour, B&W night vision 20m cams £35e off ebay
40m coax and power combined cable off ebay
1x PCI 4 port bnc cctv card £8 off dealxtreme
4xBNC connectors

first set up a zoneminder linux system on an old ibm thinkcentre, but bit too complex for pops so a few months ago bought a .264 quad dvr cctv box off ebay for £99 and put a 500gb sata drive in it (£30). This box does 25fps a channel, exports to usb and uses a mouse and has vga and svideo outputs.

Going to add 2 more cams to front of house when it gets a bit warmer.

I have one of these mate.(Try the demo on your iphone or PC) [ame=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180605861941&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT]8CH 8 Channels Network Surveillance Security DVR PTZ 3G on eBay (end time 27-Jan-11 12:27:04 GMT)[/ame] it works great. Can access your home from anywhere in the world. a 4 channel is cheaper. You can get cameras from £10 to £100 from fleabay. 100m of shotgun twin cable (has the power and video in one lead) for £32 [ame=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250727389872&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT]CCTV Shotgun RG59 + 2 Video and Power Cable 100M reel on eBay (end time 14-Jan-11 14:04:10 GMT)[/ame] The system is great as mines got a 500gb hard drive in it and that records 4 cameras for a month before i need to delete anything.

Another thing to note you have to have certain signs, saying about you recording or they wont stand up in court.

Regards
Mick

i would like to know more about this but i dont use ebay any other website that you know are god to buy off?

my local aerial wholesalers generally have good deals on cctv systems and also have good prices on individual componants.

i have done a system with an old pc running xp and a few ip wireless cameras, think it ended up costing more than the fixed system but probably more flexible.

external cameras are y-cam Knights

Wireless IP Camera | Home Security CCTV Cameras | Wireless Security Surveillance Network Camera | Y-cam Solutions they do have a large range of internal and external cameras.

recording software on pc is go1984 although y-cam have there own recording software but i wasn't keen on it.

Easy internet explorer set-up for each camera, because its a ip based system I can look at any camera from any pc on my network via the built in server on each camera.

Like Mick said you need signs up, not jus the signs with a camera symbal on them, you need to put contact details of the Operator on there.

Which is you! or a firm that would employ to run, maintain and monitor the sytstem for you.

or you could try using the the CCTV manufactures details on the sign?

Also if you Footage does not generate a time and date stamp on the recorded image it can be used as evidence.

Will this run PTZ cameras without using a seperate controller mate as it looks pretty high spec for the price.

If it can I quite fancy 1 myself as we have been having a few probs recently and this would fit the bill if it was decent quality video

do you need signs up if you are using the cameras at home? Also if you Footage does not generate a time and date stamp on the recorded image it can be used as evidence is that true?

Not if it only captures your property but if it monitors ANY area outside this it must be signed read this

Bought 1 of these on Sunday night and it arrived this morning from China the speed of service was amazing.

As stated by pmoore31 it works a treat and the picture quality is really clear. I am using existing cameras that were connected to a DVR card in a PC and I thought the cameras were pretty crap but connected to this they are like different cameras lol.

Haven't tried to network it yet but it looks quite straight forward and it even has the software and port to run PTZ cameras

Rep added mate this is a good unit for the price

Hi, i'm just about to order the dvr above in this thread, can anyone recommend a decent make of sata hdd to go in it and also what size would be advised.
Reading the listing on ebay it takes upto a 2tb but is this needed?
Looking to maybe have 4 cameras set up at home externally and a couple interior ones.

Hi M8

A 500gb will record 4 cameras for around 30 days (on Standard recording) . If you can afford it go for a 1TB but like I said, a 500GB will do the job

i wouldnt go spending crazy money, im a cctv engineer an whilst its good to have more security an also handy when its connected to living room tv for viewing door/outside at the press of a button, iv been to many breakins etc. to make backup cds for the police, most of them the offenders wear hats, hoods or balaclavas an you cant identify them, its still good to have as it gives you more information as to what happened, ie. time, how many people, maybe wot they were wearing, even spending a fortune on a great system cant guarantee youll get a good id on the arseholes

any one got a good ptz dome camera with pelco p or d protocol for sale ?

im also a security engineer and have to agree with above. there is no point in spending stupid money on a hdd recorder. cheap and cheerfull should do. if these scumbags get into the house they will more than likely take the recorder and chuck in the nearest river !!
