I know there are a few folk on the forum waiting to go for the same op all i would say is very impressive how quickly its all done.. wee bit sore today but hopefully worth it in the end.. if any of you going have any questions feel free to pipe up... but as i say was over with very quickly woke up about 1.30 hours after the general and was fine to go home around 1.30 hours after that.. tis all good.

hope it all goes well. I had mine last year and its so much better now. get on bicycle after maybe 2-3 weeks and do some gentle cycling

what was the issue colin? doc has just refered me to a specialist for a suspected torn cartilage. not looking forward to it if i need an op though.

they werent sure till the went in.. issue was intermittent pain/locking type thing..

removed plica? and they hope that should solve it..

Had my right knee arthroscope done yesterday as well Colin, basically same timescale as you for op, recovery and release from hospital.
As you also say knee's a little bit sore.
Been given sick note for 2 weeks, I have to to see my GP Monday to have dressing changed and hospital said they would contact me for an appointment to see the consultant again in about 2 weeks.
I hope I'm not off for too long. £95 a week sick pay and a family to support!!

good luck mate hope its sorted for ya

Tell me more about this suck pay I am all ears. Do you have the address of your doctors lol. Sorry I couldn't resist.:proud:

Colin, got the sick line from the hospital.
As for standing up and putting pressure on knee, I have been using crutches. I can shuffle about slowly without them but I can feel the strain on my knee and it is quite painful. I would rather use the crutches for a couple of days than risk damaging the knee any further.

interesting ive to go to GP for my sickline and was given crutches.. i too am just really sort of shuffling about murder going up stairs worse coming down... i cant believe the guidance notes are folk can resume driving 2-5 days afterwards? would love to know who can drive 2 days after that!

how long is your sickline? im going down on friday and think ill just ask for 1 week more

Colin, I was told not to drive for 2 weeks which would be about the time required to ensure my knee was able to cope with being able to perform an emergency stop.
The consultant at the hospital signed my sick note and it stated not fit to work for 2 weeks. (he did ask what I did for a living - I deliver parcels for City Link, so I would think that the time off would depend on what your job is.)

I am on the waitng list for an ACL, and they might have to remove the meniscus depending on the damage - which they are not sure on yet until the operate.

They told me if they have to remove the meniscus then I should be walking again by 3 weeks, but if they repair the meniscus I wont be able to walk for 6 weeks ?

Fook knows not looking forward to it all.

Mick

mick its fine.. sore the next day but the procedure itself is fine..

Keep us posted though mate. It will be nice to know how you get on over the next few weeks. Give me an idea on exactly how long it will take to walk again.

What procedure on the knee did you have ?

Is the plica the same as a cruciate ligament, I have no idea about all this knee stuff. they want to take something from my leg to rebuild the ligament.

Regards
Mick

thats a bit more serious, the cruciate the boy i was chatting to before my surgery had that the time before and he said it was pretty sore im affraid and he was kept in over night...etc.. bit more serious than mine, i reckon ill be back walking properly after about 1 week i can hobble about today but still pretty sore and stairs arent easy! lol

Went to doctors this morning to have hospital dresssing removed and a smaller dressing put on. Couldn't believe how small the incisions were, really neat.
My bad news is that I have osteoarthritis in the knee, which usually only gets worse.
