Freesat record - help

I'm using my old Sky+box as a freesat box in the bedroom, however I cannot use the record function, is there anyway of unblocking the sky software to use as a normal digital freesat recorder? I'm alreadu upgraded to skyHD so don't want to pay for multiroom too! Please help
