Hey Peepz
Got my box connected via a cat5 cable just wondering if it worth investing a cat6 cable copper wire cable? Will this improve anything or has anyone tried?
thankz
Ice
I doubt it will as your aware your solo2 has a gigabit lan so your router and pc's Ethernet card connect to the router need to be gigabit spec too to take full advantage. It wont hurt going to cat 6 just don't think you'll see much improvement in real terms.
Just make sure the cable is cat5e, and for runs of less than 20 metres (and this depends entirely on what switch you connect the cable to and how well it can provide power for longer runs) you should be fine. My house is cabled using cat 5e and where possible the devices connect at gigabit speeds but I did have to swap out my switch as the previous switch didn't provide enough power for the longest run of cable to my sons room.
Cat5e is fine for gigabit for runs up to 100m between devices. Strange about the switch not providing enough power, i've not come across that before.
