I can deal with everything apart from the permanent marker.

You're not supposed to, as alcohol can melt certain plastics, but isopropyl alcohol will often shift permanent marker.

I thought plasma screen had a glass front through it could well be treated with an anti-glare coating.

Honestly couldn't tell you. But on most TVs I've seen the bezel is plastic.

bezel will be plastic but the screen will be glass. you can clean the plastic bezel with simple cleaner.

In which case, assuming any coating isn't alcohol soluble, he could just apply the isopropyl alcohol to the cleaning cloth itself, in sparing amounts to prevent run off.

i use whiteboard cleaner and computer foam on my plasma or good old water and fairy then a lint free cloth to wipe away the streaks
