I had the same problem on a box and took the plunge with edcase's tutorial, my reason being.. if the box was borked I had nothing to lose. It's not as difficult as it looks and as tb1 said, the hardest part is removing the top reader. One thing to remember is that it's not needed so you don't have to be mega careful when de-soldering...
