A Jamie Murphy strike saw Motherwell progress to the third qualifying round of the Europa League with a nervy win over Icelandic outfit Breidablik.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, Well weathered early pressure from the hosts as Steindorsson, Krisjansson and Petursson all spurned chances.

Murphy scored just before the break when he slotted home after collecting a long ball from Stephen Craigan.

Well were more comfortable in the second half and held on to progress.

Breidablik made a bright start and could have taken an early lead but Steindorsson failed to force home a dangerous free-kick whipped into the box by Krisjansson.

Motherwell struggled for fluency and could have found themselves behind in Iceland but Krisjansson and Petursson also spurned good chances.

Craig Brown's men found their feet as the first half wore on and the Steelmen grabbed a crucial away goal three minutes before the break.

Craigan's long ball caused havoc in the Breidablik rearguard and Murphy pounced to fire it into the net past Kale.
