Was quick fit who done it mate i assumed that they would have done it, Teach me for getting monkies to do it lol

Is there a dye or anything you can get to put in it to see where it is leaking from?

yea , an aircon place can add the dye aswell as re gassing then u go back and they check for the leak , might be a seal or rad or pipe u name it m8 .. wot ever it is , its a few quids . in the hundreds

You'll have to pay a proper garage or aircon specialist to check the system for you. The fact that there prob was no gas in there should have alerted them that there was a leak. I'd demand a refund.

I would't let kwik fit work on one of these.

theres a handfull of cars that r known for leaking slow over 5 years / astra h is one of them and volvo s60

Yeah mazda's do as well usually caused by the 'o' rings drying out and shrinking. Still especially with all the new regs coming they should have done some basic checks. I'd bet they didn't even bother with a vacuum test or check the condition of the condensor or pipes. I can almost hear the ozone layer disolving. They just see this as new revenue stream, most people are ignorant of servicing requirements for their aircon.

when they recharge the aircon, they discharge it then pressure test whilst filling it up

heater / driers tend to corrode quite easily

i would ask for my cash back anyway

funny enough thats what i'v got but sulry it would go that crap with in 12 hours ?

Im gonna go back and see if i can get my money back or if they will stick it on the machine and see if the pressure has droped to signfy a leak

Was tempted to try one of those halfords DIY Kits for sealing aircon units dunno if it would be worth a try or not...Cant really afford a speclist to look over the full system unless its about 60 quid as said above but i dont know any around glasgow :(

l know the lads r going to slag me for this . l have garage and getting the car off the wife is a nightmare .. its an sri astra h 5 years old .. anywho l got a can of the mac tools guy as its was only 20 holes and fook me its been fine lol ..

but they can blow up your rads and things m8 .. l took the change because im in the trade

Could easily loose ehough pressure to stop working effectivly in 12 hours. the whole system works on pressure changes between low and high with the refrigerant changing from gas to liquid to gas and back again as its pumped around the system. There used to be a company called add it that did a seal rejuvenator that caused the seals to swell up again without you having to take everything apart and replace them. I'm sure if you check there might be someone else doing a simillar product. it could be corrosion though like ephidOr has said, so it might not be the answer.

When the pressure drops enough the pressure switch will stop it working altogether to protect the compressor.

@ smirnoff we used to use the top ups on service every 2 years as it was a cheaper option than a full regas for customers you can get a pressure gauge for the canisters to test the pressure and make sure your not overfilling.

Halfords Aircon Stop Leak & Reconditioner from Halfords Price £17.99

that is only 3.8oz most cars r more that double that m8 u might need up to 700 grams

Yeah thats the stuff im on about, Im tempted to try it but im gonna take it back to kwickshit and see if i can get some money back and a pressure test for free too :p

should use aircon regularly or it can damage the system (use it or loose it).
My car is coming up for 10 now and ir con is like ice when fully down,i use it at least ten minutes weekly to keep the seals intact. It help defrost the car quicker in winter also ,i used to worry about loosing 10% efficiency but if you open a window you loose that anyway

ive just had to get mine repaired, i had a broken pipe on mine - i payed 30squids to get it filled and all the gas escaped overnight with a load of oil all over the garage floor. in my case i was recomended a mobile aircon mechanic - he pressure tested it - it passed, then he put some dye in and done the pressure test again, i had a hairline fracture on the pipe - as the pressure test was only 1/2 the operating pressure it was difficult to find. i got a replacement pipe and he came back to fit and re oil the system - cost me £50 for the pipe. the guy only charged me £20 for the work he done - i felt guilty at being such a low price i asked him to also fill it (the original garage would have done a recharge for free if this mechanic repaired it) and he charged £40 for that. I wont ever know get tire fitters to do my air con now, id rather pay the little extra and get a specialist to do the job. if our in the essex area (basildon - london east he works) let me know and i will forward his number to you, i really cant recomend him highly enough.

Everyone in my family says don't use your aircon all the time it cains your petrol!

I say to em look i didn't get a luxury not to use it and i also say the exact same thing if your bombing down the motor way window open the drag will effect fuel economy anyway. Also the noise from having your window open can be somewhat annoying :)

Mythbusters say to use aircon at high speed and open the windows at low speed :)

All aircon systems in cars leak as the seals are not gas tight. The only way to make them leak free in cars is to use enclosed electric motor systems which I'm sure will be used in the future.

budget done my old x platre focus last year then when i went to get it, they didnt charge me because they found a leak, was suprised they didnt just bump me.
