i reckon there will be a lot of grief with this, it turns out the Police rider was acting as a "outrider" ahead of the group of bikers, he was on the wrong side of the road on approach to a blind corner.

Sadly the other rider came in the opposite direction and ended with him dying :(

How much do ya bet the copper gets off ?

Dont matter how experienced you are, accidents can still happen, but less so. Question was why was the copper on the wrong side of the road. That cant be down to inexperience surely, he must of known what he was doing.

can't speak for those in NI. but bike cops in the mainland, are amongst the best trained. and, in my experience, best riders on the roads. with a level of bike control, many, never achieve in a life time. accidents do happen, but we need, way, more evedence before we can, even, start to ask who was at fault.

There are loads of questions that need to be asked, I imagine as an escort he would most certainly have not have been speeding, was the other bike the same?

Not trying to stir anything up I'm just saying that in my experience on the roads 1 in 10 motorcyclists stick to anything even close to the speed limit.

I'm not saying I'm a saint in my car but the fundamentals are a car is a lot easier to see than a bike.

i see no "stirring" in this. its pretty much what went through my head, when i read the OP. there is not much the poor copper can do if someone comes round the bend, too fast to stop. (i am not saying that's what happened).

If the shoe was on the other foot (ie the dead rider on the wrong side of the road) the police would have apportioned blame almost instantly !

Witnesses say the dead biker was not travelling at excessive speed.
