Bigga's first attempt flashing drive

Right im gonna finally try to flash me Ts ms28 drive

im planning on using my usb pen with the extreme 4.2 bootmaker and 4.2a firmware.

Can someone please tell is their anything i should do before trying to do this ive been reading loads trying not to bore people with to many questions,

just need to know does this save my drive key for me or is that something else i should do first...

Sammy drives can be a bit of a pain. to do it without soldering (HIGHLY RECCOMEND) you need a via sata card. VT6421A OR VT6421L.
you also need an editord MTKFLASH.EXE and MTKFLASH.TYP files for the via cards.

once got these this is how I did mine.

Format USB stick and make it bootable. copy the xtreme42a.bin onto it
also copy x360sam.exe, mtkflash.exe and mtkflash.typ onto there.

power down pc and xbox 360. dissamble 360. and wire sata lead from it to the pc. keep the power connected. its also reccomened that you attach a wire from the pc case to the xbox 360 case. metal -> metal. as a grounding point

once done that. follow these steps..

1) power on the 360 (Make sure video lead is in too)
2) power on the PC, boot from usb stick
3) at the command type mtkflash r /m orig.bin
4) press return. and wait for it to give you options of port to select. you want
VIA (DONT SELECT IT YET)
5_ At the selection screen, power down the 360.
6) Press the number for via on the pc. and it will seem to hang.
7) Power up the 360 and the pc should start to read the f/ware from your drive.

** MAKE A BACKUP OF ORIG.BIN WHEN FINISHED. **

8) Type x360sam xtrem42a.bin orig.bin hacked.bin
9) wait for it to finish. and power down the 360 and the PC
10) Power up the 360
11) power up the PC, boot from USB stick
12) at the command type mtkflash w /m hacked.bin
13) wait for via select. power down 360
14) select via. wait and power on 360

at thsi point your drive will flash. wait for it to get to 100% on all 4 banks.

15) power down pc and 360. reassemble 360. and njoy backups

Cheers m8 ive orderd the VIA6421A hopefully should get it tommorow then ill start again hopefully it will recognize my drive has I tried just now but it doesnt like my mo/bo.

I've done a few ms-28s now. via never fails for me

fuas has it right,but personally from point 7 i prefer to do it by booting back into windows and entering the key with maximus firmware toolbox,this way you are sure of having a back up of your orig.bin file,i am not a fan of auto flashers

also after the via has shown up and you turn off the 360 you gotta wait at least ten seconds-but if it doesnt read/rite first time dont give up-some ms28 drives can be finnikey

Before you flash mate, you may want to try v3.2 instead of 4.2a. I had a few problems with e66 after flashing to 4.2a but I cant remember if it was on my ms25 drive or ms28. Either way I flashed back to 3.2 and I've had no problems with e66. Violentj or Highlander could advise better on this e66 error.

with a ms 28 you should be fine with 4.2,problems seem to be with the update from live itself mainly-but putting a ms28 based fw on a ms28 drive shouldnt be a problem-but putting a ms25 based fw on a ms28 can cause problems

VIA6421A finally arrived & installed, Bootmanager seems to recognise it so ive programmed it to my usb pen.

boots ok type in the mtkflash r /m orig.bin

turn xbox360 on & I either get a flashing cursor or drive not detected?

Im not getting any other options tried this a few times...

Has this got something to do with the mtkflash im using...?

you want to turn on the 360 as you select clean boot-b4 you type the command the 360 should be on,

Right this dont seem to be working for me I turn 360 on computer boots up from usb pen i get Scan Devices Please wait...

then

Hardware initiate failed please check device!!!
The Bios does not be installed. Press G to continue!

I pree G it then goes back to C: type in the mtkflash r /m orig.bin and
it says no drive detected.

Im well lost now on what to do ive checked the diver for the via card & everthings installed ok????????????

ok try updating your mobo bios-ive not used a usb pendrive to do it myself,but it should be the same princaple as using a floppy

Still no joy with this ive went out and bought a floppy so im using that now but still after I do a clean boot it still say cannot detect drive Ive plugged out eveything I cant undrestand it....maybe its because i need to edit the mtkflash or something but I really aint got a clue how to do this ive read up on it but it confuses the hell out of me...

If some kind person could help me out with this that would be most appreciated here's my info
