Hi Guys ive just upgraded from a Duron 800 to an Athalon 1.1 But im a little concerned about the cpu temp. I bought a 1.2gig fan mu processor is running at about 47/48 degrees C. Is this about right?? My room temp is quiet high i've just gutted my central heating system !!!!

hi m8 you did not say how long your pc was on for and what you have been doing on it,ie playing games tends to raise the temp up.Did you lap the heat sink before you put it on the cpu and what heatsink compound did you put it.Has you case got extra fans it for cooling?,seems like alot of questions but they all make a differance to the temp.

that temp is fine m8 my t-bird 1.4 heats up to about that and higher after playing games just get a system fan and even and exhaust if ur worried. i have got a hd fan an exhaust and a system fan not including the heavy dute cpu fan.

can be a bit nosey though............lol

Yep there is no probs at all with that m8.

My 1600xp with a 1.8 fan is runing at 52'c and the system at 41'c

so think yourself lucky m8, as it's like a sauna in my room LOL

Gazer.

I have an athlon xp 1700 mine runs at between 54-57 deg, I have a digi doc 5 which monitors the temp at 8 points in my pc and switches the fans on with respect to the set point levels i determine.

My system is a full tower so there is also plenty of room for air circulation.

according to my digi doc 5 the hottest part of my pc is the graphics card (geforce 2 mx 64 mb)

I am very strongly considering moving over to water cooled as has junglist dj, I have spoken with him at length and he has been a good source of information on pc mod kits and cooling stuff.

The kind of temperatures he is achieving are awesome (taking into account his processor is overclocked)
check out the AMD web site there are specification and operataing temperatures there.
Ill think you find that all the temps mentioned are well within design specifications.
I do question how well calibrated these temp sensors are and i have a thermal temperature gun in work maybe i will do some tests ..will let you know the results.

Regards Taff

Thanks for that Taff. Im getting an average of between 57 and 62 tops with similar set up. Temperature seems to go up a bit after watching a couple of bluies. Cant understand why?

Thanks for all the replies !!! I've got the temp down by adding a couple of extra system fans, Seems to chug away at about 43-48 when under stress, I did see it go up to 53 before the new fans went in!! I think my voodoo 3 creates quite a bit of heat inside the case !! PC is a little noisey now, this gives me an excuse to crank the volume up more !!!!!! Cheers

Acording to AMD, anything under 60c and you CPU should opperate perfectly, between 60c and 90c and your computer might get unstable (ie crash lots) but it won't damage the CPU. Anything above 90c will burn your processor and damage it beyond reapir.

From experiance I have found that anything under 50 is fine
