Hi everybody,

I have just got hold of an Iphone 3gs running Version 5.0 and Firmware 05.16.05, it looks like its locked to Orange as it says no service when I put my Vodaphone sim in.

Can somebody advise the best way to proceed to unlock and jailbreak the phone.

Thanks guys

Pete

The best way would be to contact orange and pay for a factory unlock.
be around £15 unless they will do it for free.
some will suggest jailbreaking and using the ipad baseband and unlocking with ultrasn0w but the ipad baseband has it risks
for 1 you will no longer beable to update using stock firmware and you could/will lose your GPS

For the jailbreak you will need to update to 5.0.1 : https://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/index.php?threads/278643/

If I follow the way in the link, do I upgrade to 5.0.1 via Itunes?

I updated and used redsn0w, I assume its jailbroken now, but how to I get it unlocked as it's still saying "no service" with the vodafone sim and the iphone says the carrier is Orange.

Any ideas please.

Thanks

The only way to unlock it is through orange
Or gevey sim if it will work
Look on eBay for gevey sim and see if it is compatible with your baseband

You have to phone orange with your imei number. then you plug it into itunes
and it unlocks for there, they will unlock it for a fee or sometimes free.
its the best way honest

Thanks guys,

I will try and twist their arms tomorrow to get the unlock code.
