    Linux raspberry pi

OpenVPN works quite nicely on the Pi, either as a client or as a server. It can be a little daunting to set up but there's loads of guides. Just choose the guide for whichever generic distro of linux your using. Once you connect via the encrypted tunnel then all network traffic becomes...

STARVIEWS CUSTOMER DATA LEAKED - The Kiddy screws up (yet again)

Unfortunately, your the 4th person today that i've seen with that email. Two of them I got to see in raw form and the details they contained matched perfectly the recipients. I'd say that pretty much guarantees SV have had a serious data breach.

How much does a Router impact broadband performance?

For ADSL i'd likely go for a seperate modem and router pair as quite a lot of the combo units have some severe throughput problems. For the router, i'd probably require something that can run one of the larger dd-wrt images, but then I like my router to have extra's like openvpn.

    Rasberry pi

Its really nothing more than an educational 'taster' board. There's really not a lot you can do with it that you couldn't do with the insides of just about any cheap internet router (a lot of routers use the same family chip from Broadcom as the Pi uses). The only advantage is the Pi has a...

is there anything i can do my end to decrease glitches

You may be able to get your 'server' to tweak their router to give priority to cs traffic. Generally this kind of sharing occurs on domestic lines that get used for other stuff. If your friend is using his line for other purposes then its quite likely you will see the occaional glitch. What...

    dyns or no-ip

If you've got a static or semi-static ip address (VM cable) then your possible better off getting yourself a free domain name from somewhere like .co.cc or my.dot.tk and then keeping it maintained yourself. Alternatively, you can get a paid domain. Godaddy are presently giving .info domains...

    Royal variety ?

Been wondering for years why such crap gets primetime coverage. Probably because its cheaper to televise than anything remotely interesting. After all, the acts cant be getting more than free drinks for the performances ! Strange how the impersonaters of these people always do a better job...

    So Cameron veto'ed euro plan

Unfortunately, as you say its a no win situation for the UK. The city pretty much depends on Europe (whilst also relying on the UK's protection from European interference) so once we lose our usefulness a large chunk of city business will drift back to France/Germany and other EU countries...

    Soldering Iron Advice needed urgently

A 15W Iron is probably underpowered for anything but the smallest job. Any sizeable component or bit of copper is just going to suck the heat away from the tip. Dunno why but Wellers have always felt 'clunky' to me. I much prefer the Antex SD50 with 690SD controller for most of my standard...

Cant seem to set to ignore the RSS feeds sections in profile

Yes, doing exactly that - doesn't seem to work properly. It doesn't seem to work on any post posted by Mick (which is the majority of the RSS feed posts). Maybe its because he's admin and you cant ignore admin posts.

Cant seem to set to ignore the RSS feeds sections in profile

For some reason I cant seem to set my profile to ignore these sections. Maybe its because most of the posts are by Mick. Its a bit time consuming to be constantly getting reams of the things during a new-post search

The more you help, the more you get sh!t on!!!

Unfortunately, its always been the case with the majority of forums seeming to treat their more knowledgable members as little more than commodities to be 'squeezed' in order to get useful information. tbh, I suppose the forums are only acting in the same way that the majority of individuals...

my 11 yr olds sons home work ?????

Really ? In my day you wouldn't move onto such stuff until you'd taken your 'options' at 13/14 and decided to do Chemistry as an 'O' level course. Before options we used to have something called General science which, as the name suggests, was all very general. Bit of all the sciences thrown in...

Creating a Swap File for the Dreambox? making it faster etc?

For Win7, on an average PC that doesn't do too much in the way of multitasking then 1.5Gig is probably enough (I'd likely go for 2Gig though, so the memory is all matched). If your concerned then open up your task manager and have a look at where all the memory is going and how much you have...

    ***scam alert warn your friends***

You only think that because you cant understand what their actually saying. When your concentrating looking for the odd word that might give you a clue as to what they are saying then accents tend to become very unimportant so you dont even listen for them. Once you understand the languages...

    ***scam alert warn your friends***

lol, I've been mistaken for Irish, Welsh and, even once (by a Texan), German ! I suppose Americans can barely understand their own accents so we can hardly complain if they dont understand ours.

    two dreamboxes one virgin superhub

Re: virgin super hub & two dreamboxes Unless you've set them to have static IP addresses (often done for servers) then the boxes should not interfere with each other in the slightest as far as the network is concerned. The fact they are interfering implies one or more of several different...

Creating a Swap File for the Dreambox? making it faster etc?

The swap file is basically just a way of adding virtual RAM to a system by allowing the system to page RAM memory to/from the disk on an on-demand basis. Effectively a task which has finished its timeslice can have all its ram memory dumped to the disk file and that RAM memory can then be used...

Excellent programme never get a virus (Sandboxie)

You could always go the whole hog and use vmware or similar to run a whole virtual operating system or even multiple operating systems, all totally isolated from one another. You can easily run something like WinXP and Linux at the same time on a moderately specified PC with just a couple of...

    ANOTHER virgin rant

That actually sounds more like Sky not relinquishing the number (lots of people have problems porting numbers from sky) but the VM bods really should know what the problem is. Unfortunately the crib-sheet for their first line helpdesk is woefully inadequate. If your problem doesn't fall into...
