To be honest I find the best way to solve these types of problems is to just reinstall windows, you can do an install that just deletes the existing windows folder and makes a new one. This way you don't lose any important data u just have to setup windows again

I would just use the windows defragmenter it may be slower than the others but it means you dont have to download any custom applications, anyway you can just leave it going overnight. to run the windows defragmenter go to the start menu, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and Disk...

Im really not sure about a screensaver but you could use the audio out on the box to put into some speakers or hifi this way you wouldn't have to have the screen turned on
