curiosity killed the s10

I tried loading the s12 firmware on my s10 and it is deader than dead.
The 1st attempt with the rs232 loader had an error (no packet received) but it retried and said success. The receiver didn't reboot by itself. The rs232 port was still ok so I attempted again full chunk no bootloader this time, since it already had the s12 bootloader installed. This time the rs232 port is dead,no app init ok when monitored with a terminal program.Looks like I will have to program the flash with a programmer to repair.I would advise others against trying the same experiment.

Kind of obvious ;)

Firmwares for the OB tend to work so that you can install the previous version on the newer i.e S9>S10>S11>S12

I was able to repair with an older version of loader.
Maybe they were right when they said you couldn't kill the m3602 based receivers.
The rs232 port still worked even tho it showed no signs of life.

actually it must have been a flaw in the rs232 loader.
I tried again via usb and it loaded fine.
The firmware is actually dec 10 firmware according to the info screen.
I have been playing with that since I found the yumy firmware of the same date.
Just the boot logo was different.

So I see s12 firmware isn't really any different.

some of the loaders also let you do a file dump of the individual chunks, but even though it may let you select bootloader section to dump, it fails.Maybe it was an option for old s9 firmware. That is playing with a working receiver. The bootloader is compressed and encrypted, that may be a factor.

inethds12 firmware works fine on the s10,since it is based on the dec 10 2011 s10 firmware.
A few tweaks here and there and the tv output is limited to 480 and 576 resolution.
Other s12 firmware I have seen was the s10 july 2011 firmware, which was pre clone detection I think.

skybox s12_07082012 did a job on my s10.
It just booted to -- on the display and I had to recover via rs232.
Unfortunately, all other s10 firmware does the same thing except for the anonymousx firmware.
So now I am stuck using that.
