What the best value for money HD Linux receiver

I've already got an original DM800 so would prefer one that CCcam runs on

personally i'd say the VU+DUO. it's not exactly the cheapest box but with massive support from amateurs and semi pro teams alike i'd say it's easily the best you can buy for your money.

Was looking at one of them yesterday, £375 is a bit steep but a good point is the twin tuner

somthing to think about though

keep an eye on the qbox hd mini,

only a newish box and images are just started to be made for it, so id wait before buying

seems good though, twin tuner for £180 ish

otherwise its going to be a DM800s clone

I paid 349 on ebay new, its worth the money if you think about what its compared to on the market. Once you've got one u'll think it was money well spent

personally i would not have a DM800 clone given. let alone rate it any where in the same universe as a VU

i totally agree mate but the OP asked for value for money and stated the vu+ duo costs too much

so only other linux alternatives are the the ones i stated at cheap price :)

what do you want from the box ?

well the VU+solo is around a hundred quid cheaper than the DUO and just every bit as good as it's big brother, minus the second tuner and a few odds and sods.

If on a budget then Dm800 clones are mostly fine, while the VU+ solo is best mid-range option. The answer really is to find the extra cost and go for a VU+ Duo. It simply is the best box even if more than you want to spend.

If you watch telly everyday then without doubt the cost is good value for what you get. All the other features are a bonus.

absolutely agreed, if your going to buy something such as a satellite receiver and you watch tv every day. it really does pay to buy a box that you will get years of use from and not just make do.

i dont doubt you mate! i have a DUO and its simply awesome

chose it over the solo for the twin tuner and better cpu

but if someone were to ask you which linux HD receiver would you recommend for under £200 max, what would you recommend?

the DM800s fall into that category nicely, even though its a clone, they just work (if you get one with a good rev tuner! lol)

the qbox mini hd does look cool though, official box with twin tuners for £180! just hope some decent images come out for it, will certainly be the DM800s clone killer we have been waiting for.

but as the OP already has a DM800s, then the next logical "upgrade" will be a Solo, Duo or DM8000 :proud:

personally i would say that it unreasonable to expect that kind of kit for under £200 unless your willing to run the gauntlet of potentially buying a receiver that just does not do the job it's meant for.

most of the threads on satellites forums such as this are from people who decided to go on the cheap and buy a totally inadequate box for the job. and that vast majority of them are DM800 CLONES.

i would never recommend a DM800 clone to any one.

I would go for the Qbox mini if I had a Budget of £200. I can say this with the experiance of actualy owning one. Just to be clear for £170 the box has one tuner but for an extra £25 it can be bought with two tuners. Only an absolute fool would consider buying a DM 800 clone over this box. Its no duo but at this price its gonna take some beating.

May invest in one of these. Cccam client working ok on it?

yes the cccam client is fine uses a patched version called radar. I have not tested other cams yet but oscam has been reported as ok im gonna test mgcam today.

How long have you had it mate?
how many images are available for it?
whats it like as a server?
whats the EPG like?
is it laggy, The CPU looks pretty weak on paper?

If I'm thinking about the right box then i'm pretty sure the non mini variant was a disappointment.
