Hi, I wonder if anyone has come across this before:

I tried to flash my dbox with Andromeda 2.0 image but it seems to have failed.
It is now stuck on "loading kernal" when I try to boot it.

I have searched the forum and tried all possible options that I can see.

I have tried various ways to flash it but have been unsuccessful.

These are the ways I have tried:
1. Via IFA, null-modem and cross-over cable
2. Via IFA and cross-over cable
3. via Hyper terminal and cross-over cable or null-modem
4. via cross-over cable

When using IFA the log just shows the IFA initialisation but it does see the dbox's IP address.

I set the network card to 10Mps-half duplex as well and disabled AV, firewall....
I have also tried the various ways of resetting the dbox during the IFA flash process and flashing with different images.
I have tried flashing from my laptop and PC both running windows XP and IFA 2.2. None of them work.

Using the various null-modem cables the dbox seems to get stuck on the initial screen after the "Betaresearch" screen. The one that shows various code.

With the various cross-over cables that I have tried the dbox stops on the "loading kernal" message.

Does anyone know of any other way to wipe out the current image?

did u change the subnet to 255.255.255.0

and i find that its better sometimes when i flash with a nullmodem cable and crossover to have the box swictched on then when your ready to flash restart the box, sometimes it works better for me

when you tried hyperterminal did you use just the null modem cable?? also try different images rather than the same 1 all the time. sure i read way back when i did one this way that it was better to name the image file mtd3.img

I've posted these notes many, many times but if they'll help you, here they are again.

use crossover and null modem

IFA version 2.2

Turn off windows firewall
Disable wireless network connection

Rename image file mtd3.img and store it in C:\

set Local Area Connection network IP to 192.168.0.201
( IFA automatically sets dbox IP to 192.168.0.202 )
configure Local Area Connection link speed / duplex mode to 10Mbps / half duplex

open IFA
select image for flashing ( mtd3.img from C:\ )
select network device ( there should only be one available )
switch dbox on
press start
a dialogue box pops up
switch dbox off
click ok
switch box on
flashing should begin
progress is indicated on LCD ( IFA image on TV screen )
Fertig and smiley faces on LCD means success
disconnect network
off then on at the mains

Good luck and let us know

Hi,

I saw your notes and have tried them as well. I have set the IP to the one you suggested and netmask. However using IFA the same as before happens. It sticks on the screen after "Betaresearch".

using Hyper terminal, I did use the Null-modem cable (is this the corrcet cable?) but nothing happened there either. I downloaded the 2 guides on flashing via serial and null modem cable.

Hi,

I did just use the null-modem cable and have tried using different images.

I am using IFA 2.3. Does this make a difference? I can't download IFA 2.2 as I have used my daily allowance.

This won't make a difference.

You must follow the instructions EXACTLY. From the info in your initial post you haven't done so - try again then if you are unsuccessful, post a bootlog for the top dogs to advise further.

instead of powering on at the wall when using IFA have you tried pressing the up arrow and standby button on front of box to reset it?

edit..sorry i see you have tried various ways of resetting box

I have it tried exactly as described.

Any ideas?

Try it again only this time hold the up arrow and the power button as previously suggested. Also post the bootlog, not the flash log.

I tried resetting via the powerbutton/up arrow to no avail.
Can you please point me in the right direction as to where I can get the bootlog from.
I did a search but could not find it.

Thanks

Sorry you're still stuck m8.
I'm no expert on bootlogs but post one coz some of the technical guys will advise you if there is a problem with your box.

Try IFA 1.5.6 as it does not try to do a backup before flashing. I had similar and 1.5.6 fixed it.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion.

I tried IFA 1.5.6 on 3 different PC's but it errored/crashed on launch.
1. PC running Windows XP
2. Laptop running Windows XP
3. Laptop running Windows 2000

I can't even launch it on any of these platforms.

Problem Solved!!!!!

After trying to get this sorted for over 12 hours, I finally found the problem.

I tried 5 different versions of IFA to no avail and 3 different cross-over cables that definitely work and have been tested with a cable tester.

Based on the IFA message (waiting for Dbox to start..) I deduced that there maybe a connection problem.

I tried to ping the dbox:

>ping 192.168.0.202
Pinging 192.168.0.202 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

And then checked the arp cache:

>arp -a
Interface: 192.168.0.201 --- 0x10005
Internet Address Physical Address Type
192.168.0.202 00-00-00-00-00-00 static

I realised that there was no MAC address entry for the Dbox. This confirmed my connection problem.
So, I thought I would try straight-through cables and a hub. And Viola, the flashing started immediately.

This is the process that I used (slightly modified) based on Rodboy's instructions:

I used straight-through cables and a hub instead of a cross-over and null-modem cable.

IFA version 3.1.1

Turn off windows firewall and AV
Stopped the "DHCP Client service" (this is the svhost process that some people are having problems with)
Disable wireless network connection

"Fertig" and smiley faces on LCD means success
disconnect network
off then on at the mains

I would like to thank everyone who tried to help me (Rodboy, stugga2007, firefox1965, Handy8000,dexyweescot).

I hope this may help someone else out there and maybe one of the mods would like to include this in the IFA sticky for troubleshooting purposes.
