as default the proxy servers it opens usually listen on all interfaces and if your directly connected to the internet ie not with a router then obviously people can connect and use the proxies

wingate simply just needs some simple tinkering when u set it up only to listen on localhost and the problem is solved this isnt a flaw

thats y u have zonealarm etc etc your proxy shunt be open if u have protection on ur pc

I don't use them either mate.

Every so often I'll install one and run a scan just to make sure nowt has crept in, but I never find anything.

It's all about being carefull.

yeah but....if i hadn't of had Norton then my PC with win gate on would have quite happily sat and send out 1000's of spam e-mails.

I'm still interested in what that guy said that it's a simple setting to change.

I have deleted all the things out of win gate and all i have is that proxy server, but alsa...(lolol) when it's up and running like my other screen shots have shown you there's loads of activity.

So i've ran all the virus/spyware checkers that you can imagine and none or coming back with any thing.

Am i right in thinking that it could be because a port is open? is that how these things work?

Wingate reports all activity to and from your PC mate, just because Wingate is reporting it doesn't necessarily mean that Wingate in generating the spam.

Yes, it sounds like you have a particularly nasty little worm on an open port (or atleast a port that you have perhaps allowed for another process) which is sending everyone you know those nude pictures you took of yourself while you were wearing your wifes knickers and bra, Wingate is just showing you the details.
