Yet another dull no frills box to add to the ever growing list....

No, and I can't see any reason why I'd ever want to.
Just read the specification, enough said.

Well, since you know some people behind it then I'm not suprised that you're standing up for it. :)

It's just another dull basic box, no networking, no streaming, no toys, no games.....throw it on the big pile in the corner along with the FTA101, Replaybox, Starview etc...

"Highly respected in the cable scene"....by WHO exactly?
considering it's not even released, where exactly is all this respect coming from?, the people who built it and their cronies perchance?

No thanks, I'll keep my Dbox2 and Dreambox.

by anybody who is anybody in the scene

when u r in the scene my friend then u will know who all the big boys r and i know a few of the big boys and one of them wrote the software for this box and the software is the best there is with all the latest key roll methods in it

but if u want to stay with the dbox2 which by the way is old hat
ok the dream is a good box but not everybody wants toys to play with
some ppl may want a box that u basicly plug in and it is almost ready to go

Hahahaha, the old 'you're not 'l33t enough' crap.

What has any of this got to do with my opinion that the box is nothing special?

Tell your ELITE friends in the SCENE that their box looks like any other cheap FTA box with hacked firmware, why didn't they add basic PVR functionality or a simple LAN interface?

I'm not inpressed with the box, but I'm in uber awe of your 'l33t h4x0r mates ;)

Its a set top box. Its designed for viewing TV !

The vast majority of people who buy these boxes (I'm including Starviews, FTA101's etc here) want to watch TV on them. These people haven't got the foggiest idea about networking and streaming. The design of these boxes is simply a reflection of what the market actually wants.

The fact that you appear to be a technophile and want something different doesn't alter these facts. Thats just personal preference and tbh, I'm with you on that. I also prefer things that you can "play" with and modify.

As for the games aspect, Frogger and lemmings were good in their day but are just a bit dated now ;)

I appreciate that the box is not aimed at people who like to tinker, that was why I made the statement about the box being "yet another dull no frills box...." coz it simply doesn't appeal to me.

However, judging by the fact that Davidh has edited my previous post when i suggested who may be behind the firmware in the box then I assume I was either correct or along the correct lines, if so then I'm impressed, it's a shame that the other 'boring boxes' don't have support like this one has.

It's not for me but with a support team that includes ...who I think it includes....then this will certainly be one to watch, and if I'm ever on the lookout for a nice simple plug and play solution then I know which one I'll be spending my money on.

BTW, don't knock Lemmings, it's superb. :)

I've been talking to 'he who shall not be named', lets call him Lord Voldemort :) , he explained about the future offerings and the ideals behind the box, I've got to say I'm very impressed and I'm now looking forward to it!

well i for 1 will welcome a box that has british hands in it and if it come with the abilty to rename ur bouquet and a tuner that is that is made for british cable system its got my money

Intresting to see what this box is like. Most people i know like dbox not beacause you can play about with them but they like the layout and epg. the starviews is good for watching tv but not for looking to see whats on some othe boxes have decent epg but not in the samme class as the dbox
