Liverpool News

i think we would get around 40-50 goals between all our strikers with torres bagging most of them. voronin looks good and we all know about crouchy!

kuyt use to get many goals and has had a year to adapt so he should get a few aswel.

on top of that we will have goals coming from midfield from the likes of babel, gerrard, alonso, riise and kewell if he can stay fit!

ManU and Heinze's solicitors are supposed to be coming to some kind of decision tomorrow or the day after. What that decision will be is anyone's guess.

Itandje Arrives As Carson Leaves On Loan

Liverpool have signed French goalkeeper Charles Itandje from Lens on a four year contract in a move which has allowed Scott Carson to complete a loan deal with Aston Villa.

Itandje, 24, is a former French under-21 international, though his parents are from Cameroon.

The stopper began his career with Red Star 93. His single season with the capital's second side was enough to alert clubs across Europe, but it was Lens who eventually secured the teenager's signature.

He arrives at Anfield as back-up to established number one Pepe Reina and, having received the necessary international clearance, is likely to be on the bench for this weekend's big kick-off at Aston Villa.

Itandje will wear the number 30 shirt at Anfield.

Carson, meanwhile, has agreed a deal to spend this season on loan with Aston Villa in a deal which runs until May 31.

Villa beat off competition from Manchester City for Carson's signature, although the England under-21 international will not be allowed to make his debut against the Reds this weekend.

Carson, 21, has made nine first team appearances for Liverpool.

"I could tell Scott to stay here, but he could be the future keeper of the national team and we don't really want to stop his progress," said Benitez.

"I am happy with the situation and for Scott to play somewhere else. We do not want to lose him, certainly not sell him because we are very happy with him.

"He is a good lad and a very promising goalkeeper. But I can understand his need to maintain his place in the England squad. It will benefit him to be out on loan and for us to sign a new goalkeeper. Then we will have three keepers all in action."

Thats a shame, but i suppose he wants regular footy to improve his chances for England. Any news with the Heinze situation?

It's been referred to the Premier League's arbitors. I don't know how long that will take.

Fernando Torres will make his competitive debut for Liverpool alongside Dirk Kuyt in the forward line at Aston Villa this afternoon.
Rafael Benitez's first team selection of the season is as follows:

Pepe Reina
Alvaro Arbeloa
Jamie Carragher
Daniel Agger
Steve Finnan
John Arne Riise
Steven Gerrard
Xabi Alonso
Jermaine Pennant
Dirk Kuyt
Fernando Torres

Subs:

Charles Itandje
Sami Hyypia
Andriy Voronin
Ryan Babel
Momo Sissoko

1-0 to the Reds at half time so far so good. Let's get another couple in the second half and show the rest that we mean business this yesr

Hmmm dunno what to say about that...an opening day win, first for 5 years...never looked like conceding, never looked like losing but couldn't score as usual. Torres had a couple of chances and I am sure he will come good...Babel looked tasty when he came on and Kuyt was his usual energetic self.

What an absolute millimeter perfect free kick by Stevie G but how much longer can we go on relying on him...we need the others to step up especially as our next league game is against Chelski

Dieuze warning to Liverpool

Toulouse captain Nicolas Dieuze has warned Liverpool that the heat could seriously affect their performance in Wednesday's Champions League qualifier.

Liverpool will face the French club at the hottest part of the day on Wednesday in the peak of the mid-afternoon sun.

With Toulouse arguably better prepared for the playing conditions already two games into their season, Dieuze says the advantage is definitely with the French side.

"Given how hot it will be, and the fact we have had more preparation time than them, we hope we can make them suffer," said Dieuze ahead of the third qualifying round first leg.

Result

Toulouse will have the added benefit of coming off the back of a tremendous win over French champions Lyon at the weekend.

Dieuze believes his side can produce "something special" in their first appearance in the competition in 20 years.

"We have great faith in our coach [Elie Baup], we will follow his instructions. Baup knows all about European football and he can guide us to something special."

Toulouse qualified for the Champions League in controversial circumstances as they moved from seventh to third on the last day.

They had a poor run-in, losing four on the trot but their luck turned on the penultimate weekend of the campaign.

The French side were awarded all three points in a controversial penultimate game of the season against now-relegated Nantes as their match was called off with four minutes remaining after a pitch invasion.

Winning their final game ensured a third place finish and qualification to the champions League for the first time in 20 years.

a doubt the weather will affect the lads to much as they have been in these sort of conditions in pre season in Hong Kong. A will be working during game, shud get a decent stream from www.live-footy.org though.

I think its not worth risking Stevie G on sunday with his hairline fracture. We need him for the rest of the season.

If he's fit play him. These are the games you need your top players to perform in. Worry about the next games as they come.

the theory is to play him for sunday, then rest him for a couple of weeks, meaning he misses international duty, lets see what happens!
