Question: as this thread was originally started before the Timebomb problems, does anyone know if this FPGA update process is still applicable to the new Lonrisun receivers now being supplied by the Chinese?
Obviously we now know that flashing an original image will brick these boxes, so is there any point in running this update?

Also, does anyone know if an image from a Solo2 SE will work on a "proper" clone Solo2?

i would also like to know how to tell which kinda clone i have sunray box or lonrisun box etc...

there is a url for the Lonrisun and it really does depend on the admin if i can paste the url here for members that use the Lonrisun cloned box from china.

i didnt try it cuz i dont have a console port on my laptop but there is plenty of clone safe images in the download section no matter what kinda clone you have.

just be sure u know what kinda clone(sunray, Lonrisun) u have before you try to put one of the clone images on it.

Help! My USB to RS232 adapter came today but I can't just can't this update to work! ...and i'm really not computer illiterate!!

I'm running VIX 802 untouched, I've ran the FPGA update without any problems. I'm using WinXP with the USB adapter working on COM1. The cable is connected the correct way and if I reverse the cable the "start download..." message never appears so I know it must be seeing the box. In the command window when i switch the box on I can see...

start download...
.
start download...
. . . .
start download...

same problem with my solo2 lonrisun box when updating to V2 and V3

start download... and never complete
after that I have "starting" issue or "hw error"


after 3 hours and 100x start download... My box working again

Run update.exe
press power switch on - on the box
update.exe will say: start download... and stop working
close update.exe
run update.exe again
switch off box and power on again
download will be complete

strange but works

My box is lonrisun one its bricked at present with an se image. I have ordered the cypress board and cables and hope to recover via jtag. Can this be done if and when i recover? The box i think is only v1 as the sticker has no version number on it?

hey guys im having a problem with the fpga update. after i go to firmware upgrade and i find the solo2_fpga_usb_updat. Dat i press ok but then i get this error.


anyone have any idea what my problem is?

also i read the console port update instructions but im a little confused.
its says in the picture instructions to "unplug the reciever from the power and computer and go to next step"

But where is the next step. both pictures vu+.jpg and vu+0.jpg are the same. i cant see any more instructions

What clone do you have?

I'm not aware of any clone that can accept original untouched images and even if there is such a clone, I personally would advise against using original untouched images to prevent possible bricking in future.

Should this thread still be a sticky?

i have a lonrisun clone.

i dont really care about getting original images i just want to be able to use the v4 clone safe images that are in the downloads section. currently i'm using a wifi bridge for internet for the box but its causing me problems and i wanna use a wifi dongle i have used with other solo2 boxes but for some reason if i install the wifi dongle driver on my box it crashes. i have tried a load of different images but get the same startup loop prob after i install the driver. im hoping being able to install a v4 image will rectify the problem.

Have you looked into powerline/homeplug adapters instead of wifi dongle? I use one and don't have an issue with it.

There is a thread here for v4 flash update queries.

You should be aware that the odd few have recently had tuner issue problems after flashing with v4 flash. It's unknown why as most people haven't had a problem.

powerline/homeplug adapters arent an option in my case as i use an old android phone on wifi mode for internet. so it dont got any Ethernet ports to connect to.

yeah i was reading thru that thread yesterday. i will just swap mine out with a clients that uses wired internet the next time i set one up.

This thread is old now as it's not possible for a Lonrison solo2 to accept original images. Solo2 SE may accept sunray images but that's about it.

What clone have you got and specifically what image/version are you trying?
