Right before anyone says to reset router etc, I cannot. I am currently lodging at a friend of my dad's place and kindly borrowing their internet. Now I don't like to ask my dad's friend all the time whenever there are issues plus his lad who is the only techie in their household and is not always approachable.
I do not know the router password and dont want to change anything since the equipment doesnt belong to me (though I have made some suggestions, all have been ignored by him).
I got 2 laptops, 1 tosh (winxp) and 1 samsung (win7). Router is a linksys, 160N. Signal is low, sometimes good. Usually both laptops will connect but sometimes one will not whilst the other does or vice versa. Currently both laptops unable to connect.
I have gone next to the router and still unable to connect so you can rule out signal problems. I have reset the tcp stack, disabled firewall on laptop, deleted and reentered the ssid entry etc. Security is wpa2. I got hold of another laptop and that connected fine (using same password so that also rules out incorrect password). The lad downstairs, his laptop and desktop connect fine also.
I read that it might be the router firewall blocking out access based on mac address or something. Not sure but that is something I am going to try, to see if I can find a mac addresss changer/spoofer.
Anyone got any ideas on what I can try bearing in mind I have no access to the router config or router itself?
