i was given a wii to mod yesterday, it was on 3.4E and i knew if i updated via net it would jump to 4.2E so i started to install HBC, bootmii, backed up nand, ran the trucha bug app, downgraded ios15, patched the ios36 files, BUT, the screen flipped upside down at this point, (only in homebrew channel though), restored ios15.
ran cios38r14 app, that went thorough fine, apart from being upside down LOL
this is where prob started, like a last wii did at this stage, i ran the firmware updater 4.1 to safely update to 4.1E, it goes through all the stages, and just at the end, it says FAILED, so sod it, do a live update to 4.2.

wii now on 4.2E, HBC is still there, but i reinstalled it, just in case.

did the magic with the 4.2 files, and presto, wii is now playing all back-ups, and it was so much quicker doing it from 4.2E than 3.4E

gimme another to do, oh actually, i have one to do tonight.

So on the new one, you're going straight to 4.2E via updates and then using the new 4.2E softmod method to install everything?

maybe if highlander can document a working 4.2E mod we could then have a sticky for everyone -- let us know how the mod goes

Thanks

i used "waninkoko 4.2e safe updater" everything works fine except playing wiiware off sd :0( so been tempted to take the official update thru system menu as somethings not right with it, to make sure its done properly.

would it be this tut mister Highlander?

just a quick one. After installing the above tutorial, do you still need to load a backup launcher..? and if so, what should i use to install to..is 249 still useable.?

Cheers Guys.. I followed the guide ( excpet the two optional installs, preloader and gamecube launcher - don`t need them ). Installed NeogammerV3 as ios 249... Backups working perfect.

Think I need some serious help here!
Fitted Drivekey modchip to my Wii a few months ago, took the updates from some downloaded iso's which I played, but stupidly updated my Wii via wireless tonight(which I thought was ok to do).
I think it was at v3.4? now its at V4.2E, but it wont play any of my iso's now.
I tried to load the bannerbomb fix from another forum but when i go in to sd it just shows a '?'
If there are any guide for complete/total dummies, could someone point me in the right direction?
I'm kinda begging for help here please!
Thanks
T

Tomhick024.. you dont need to softmod your wii to play games mate. Go to the supplier you got the Drive key chip from and ask if there is a firware update for the DRIVE KEY CHIP... this usually involves burning it onto a DVD and letting it update from the wiis DVD drive. I did this to my Wiininja chip...took it to version 1.9s.

I made a mess of it !!!

updated today with wii direct update.

Prepared the SD card with newmod files.....ran it through sd menu and installer says "This installer cannot continue" and it says something about not having some files on this system.

Any ideas what should i do next ?

or is that it :(

Did some reading and apparently its an "no known vulnerable ios" error....still no idea how to fix it though :(
