Best Value Newsgroup Site

Just had an email today informing me that Hitnews retention has hit 200 days.

bargain.

Messa

Hitnews is only available to Dutch customers all others are relayed to xennews.com which is alot more expensive.

Erm, sorry I just don't understand your statement, I got the email because I subscribe to Hitnews and I am UK, and my client connects to hitnews servers I assure you.

I got the email too and when I clicked on login I was redirected to :: Xennews ::
You’ve been redirected to this page because Hitnews.EU no longer supports international customers. We’d like to explain ourselves.

The reason is actually very simple and involves, as always, money. International traffic is very expensive. We didn’t realize this when we started but it turned out our international customers were actually costing us money.
So we had to do something about this. One option was to just block all international traffic and continue as a dutch provider. But we wanted to keep our loyal international customers satisfied so we set up the website you’re on right now: Xennews.Com.

Astraweb gets my vote:

The payg suits me 110gb for £12.50 plus 55 max connections.

So UNLIMITED at £8 a month doesn't suit you?

PMSL..

I can download your limit in less than 48 hours!

No thanks.

ngroups have a deal on at the min

Anniversary Special

$19.99 USD for the first 2 months, thereafter only $11.99 USD per month for as long as you keep the subscription

Ah, ok sorry I stand corrected.

It must be that they are honoring current subscriptions but like yourself I will be redirected when I try and renew.

I am glad I know now actually as it gives me time to look around before I am due.

Thanks

It doesn't run out till I use it all......no time limits.

are there any newgroups for noobs guides? i been looking at some of those sites and it all sounds great for getting stuff, but i wouldnt know where to begin!!

I use giganews, platinium ... not cheap but get ssl and pretty good service.

Might change soon though lol

SSL is secure socket layer, and it means your traffic is encrypted and so can't be traced by your ISP for example.

Newsgroup servers only have finite space, with the older stuff being replaced all the time by new stuff. If you imagine it as a conveyor belt new stuff goes at the beginning and old stuff drops off the end, retention is the length of the belt, if you like.

So something posted 160 days ago would not be available on the ngroups server but would be still on the hitnews and giganews as they are 200+ day retention.

Hope this helps,

Messa

Hmmm, out of curiosity I just tried to renew my subscription ( not due until Feb '09) and it allowed me to subscribe and pay using the NL rates, I got 6 months for €36 !

Checked my account and its all gone through etc.

Maybe its just for new accounts that they are changing?

Dunno but glad I got in again at that price !

:)

yeah mate dead easy, really all you do to start with is this.

nice person on www some where splits say a game, it's split into 97 meg rar files.

he then creates some recovery files, when data is split and messed about with uploaded and downloaded it can loose tiny little bits of information so the recovery files that come with the rars are there in case you need to repair the original files.

he/she then uploads it to the news group.

then this is where you come along, you log into your newsgroup and then search for the file, you either select it all as a rar or a nzb.....(rar or nzb file when selecting this is simply a little file that tells your software grabber where and what the files are etc)

i use the nzb file, so I'd select all and there should be a little tick and you make your self a little dibbersfilm.nzb file.

then get some thing like newsleecher, open the nzb with this file (after doing all these settings for where the newsgroup server is, password etc)

it will then drag the file from the net and save it to your hard drive at super fast speed (if your with vermin they will cap you after a while)

once it's downloaded then use quickpar to check that the file is in place and no bits are missing, this will use any of the recovery files if needed to repair the original file. (one of the neewsleecher programs actually will do this all for you)

then simply extract the 1st rar and you should end up with your desired file....

job done.

Sorry to but in but if I use SSL will i still get capped by vermin after Iv'e chewed the ass off my connection ? I mean can they still see that im using masses of bandwidth just not have a clue what for? Reason i ask is i kept on getting capped to the point where i phoned them up and got downgraded to the cheapest package as i was only getting a week at full tilt anyway cheeky gits..!

Hi, no SSL means that they can see how much you are using but not the content. This is more important if someone went to your ISP for records of your traffic.

Messa

im also with astraweb but i pay $11, get 160 days retention not as much as other providers but more then long enoughr for what i download, unlimited downloads, 20 connections and ssl included.

i got the above deal by signing throught a partner of theres, and the price is fixed at $11 for ever.

if anyones interested ill try and find the link

ngroups has changed a bit im with them renewal is today , just went to renew via paypal as always , and it says please note if paying by paypal no adult content can be dloaded

hows that unlimited ??

so im looking for a new provider before midnight tonight that i can share the connection on
