Put the hankies away, I am entitled to my opinion, and lets face it dam stupid thing to do was go back to Pakistan, where they hung her father and attempted to kill her before. save your sorrow for the ones who deserve it.

It was a stupid thing to do and I guess she was blinded by greed. She saw that Musharraf's popularity was on a small downward spiral due to unnecessary international pressure and the call for a so called 'democratic' leader.

Its ironic that the same people that she let run free during her reign of power are probably responsible for her death. I guess eventually all things come a full circle.

So far as British army involvement in Pakistan goes its a complete fantasy and i really don't see why any of you think that this may happen.

LOL karym6 you think China and India are going to send their troops to Pakistan to help out. Dont hold your breath mate. That will never happen - ever. The Chinese and Indians have been fighting cross border terrorism for the past 50 years.

And this assassination really doesn't have much effect on us at all either fiscally or from a military perspective. Our troops are already in the region because of what she started during her reign and the chance of more troops is a fantasy.

She was a wannabe in todays climate and got what was on the cards.

I dont think the troops would be sent to help at all, thats the scary bit. If China sent troops it would be to invade. if India sent troops, just to take territory. I dont honestly see any of the west sending soldiers to help...

not unless someone finds oil under there in the next few weeks lol

Pakistan has one of the strongest and well trained armies in the world. They can can cope very well fighting their own battles and besides they have a good defence system and would not allow any other country to invade them ever.

didnt they say that about germany and vietnam as well m8

wars are not about simple fighting cos im stronger than you no more, its all political crap m8, and no matter what you say, or how you feel, itll be people in suits that have the final say

who cares got more important things to worry about, anyway will be forgotten in a few days

No apologies for my language.

You are a fucking idiot and I'd rather you were not a member of this forum.

Calm down, wether you agree with herbie or not personal attacks won't do anyone any good and infact will end up with you getting a ban over a comment that was meant to cause the shit it has

@ Herbie .. don't think we are that stupid that we don't know what your game is pal .. if you can't post something decent then don't bother, any more winding up or baiting from you and you will be gone for good, I'm watching you

True, he's only a troll.

Sorry Bronto - and all other mods for my bad language.

Very sad whats happened, I just cant see it getting any better.

Im sure the taliban would love a cival war now.

I dont think we should send troops. We will get the blame for any civil war anyway - China and India will more than likely send troops incase of a nuclear accident?

But this will be a problem for all of us in the months to come.

Have we got any troops left to send there all sorting out the yanks mess in other parts of the world.

Sad day I have to agree.... the comments made earlier in this thread by the twat with the short nose who can't see any further than it are ludicrous. It takes a lot of guts to return to some place of danger to try and make a difference.

You know everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if he is doing it to get a reaction then he is succeeding and some of the language on these posts are getting terrible you can put ur opinion across without swearing. There are quite a few on here now who love to stir it and ive fallen victim to it on numerous occassions. Best to leave admin and mods sort it without lowering ourselves to the ones who stir's level always 2 ways to skin a cat

Benazir Bhutto is Asia's most corrupt politician and corruption cases against her are in almost every court in Europe,
she was elected twice and did nothing for Pakistan, except take it to the brink of bankruptcy.
Benazir Bhutto party the PPP are responsible for the rise of the Taliban,If the PPP had not favoured Talibanisation during its government, the situation in Pakistan would be very different today, so forgive me if I don't join the mass hysteria over one so corrupt.
I would rather save my sorrow for the British soldiers killed in Afghanistan, the three students one female that have just been hung in public in Iran because they asked for democracy, even the brain washed suicide bomber that did this.
Like I said I have more important things to think about.

hmm got to agree with this post about the corruption .etc

but ur other posts were typical

she was corrupt

but she didnt deserve to die like that. :(

and for the people who are thinking pakistan might fall in civil war dont even go there.

pakistans army is very highly trained, skilled, and disciplined.

plus pakistans army is larger than uk

the army has always had some hand in politics ever since pakistan was formed.
so all i can see the worst it could ever get is that the army takes control

expelles everyone from the governemnt and sets up a new government

but thats worst case and hope it didnt come to that.

so please guys keep this thread on topic as the news section does reflect on DW

they kill themselves no need for anyone else to invade etc

amount of corruption there is there its unbelievable

apart from the army is strong i agree but musharraf is a muppet and im sure he is behind this attack

well i hope if it ever went that bad and did end up in civil war that brown and bush keep there noses out and dont get us involved like they like doing every where else :(

Why is it scary that British troops are not being sent to Pakistan? Why would you want to send our troops into Pakistan. Why is it so scary?

Also your comments on a Chinese and Indian invasion are laughable. Why would either army want to invade Pakistan? All your talk is inflammotory and has nothing to do with the matter at hand, I hope I'm not offending you here but its talk like that, that stirs up trouble for no reason.

So far as all the do gooders here keep going on about how she didnt deserve to die like that simply have no idea what this women was about. Go take a history lesson before you make such BS comments. This is the same women who spent 5/6 years in prison. Her husband spent more. Not only were they responsable for raping the wealth of Pakistan but also for the death and execution of many Pakistani's who opposed them and their lust for money and power. A bullit to the head was was too kind IMO.

I think the herbie bashing is a bit uncalled for as well. I think he is the only one in this thread that has spoken any sense on this matter.

@ severus It takes a lot of guts to return to some place of danger to try and make a difference"- what difference is that. Have you no idea what her track record is? again a history lesson is called for. Our troops are dying in Afghanistan becuase Bhutto gave rise to the Taliban, are you condoning these actions? Is this the difference that you want?

So far as Musharraf being a muppet, well again people have no idea what they are talking about. Unless you have been to Pakistan and see the difference he has made i dont think you are in a position to make such comments. Dont believe everythin you read in the papers. Pakistan needs to be ruled with a heavy hand in order to reduce the corruption and lawlessness. I have expereinced this first hand and things are much better than they were under Bhutto's rule.

I posted this item because it was a major news event and just announced when I posted.

It may not have an immediate effect on our individual lives here but it will impact on the politics of the whole world.

Also we have members here who have friends and family in Pakistan.

Bhutto assassination hits world markets

Stock markets worldwide have fallen as the assassination of Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto sparked fears of civil unrest in the nuclear-armed country and instability in the region.

Asian and US stocks tumbled overnight and European shares dipped this morning. The FTSE 100 was down 42.1 points at one stage, a fall of 0.6%. By mid-morning it had recovered to be down 10.6 points at 6,487.2 in its last full trading session before the end of the year. A fall today would end a six-day winning run.

Germany's DAX fell 0.3% while France's CAC 40 was down 0.4% mid-morning.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei index dropped 1.7% on its last trading day of 2007. It was down 11% for the year at 15,307.78, its first annual loss in five years and putting it on track to be the world's worst-performing major stock market this year. The Nikkei is now closed until next Friday.

Shares in Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong and New Zealand also fell overnight, with benchmark indices down between 0.3% and 1.7%. In the US, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 1.4%, or 192.08 points, at 13,359.61.

Bhutto's assassination in a gun and bomb attack as she left a political rally in Rawalpindi yesterday have cast doubts on elections scheduled for January 8, although Pakistan's caretaker prime minister said today they would go ahead as planned.

Gold traded close to a one-month high this morning, as some investors moved out of stocks and into safer assets.

The spot price of gold climbed as high as $829.30 per ounce in early trading after hitting a fresh one-month high of $831.10 yesterday. Gold was also supported by strong energy prices, with US crude oil trading near $97 a barrel after hitting a one-month high of $97.79 yesterday.

"Pakistan is a crucial country in the region and the prospect of political uncertainty is leading to some nervousness [reflected in] gold, bond and oil prices rising," said Audrey Childe-Freeman, an economist at CIBC World Markets.

Trading on the Karachi Stock Exchange has been suspended for three days for a period of mourning.
