You didn't really think the smoking ban would not continue did you?

The freedom argument is nonsensical, unless you object to all laws.

Do you mean it's currently illegal by English law to smoke in your own car?

no sdd, i mean it's currently illegal to smoke in my own van because it's considered a work place.

I still smoke in it anyway so tough tits. in fact i smoke a pipe as well now.

i belive if its a company work van/car ya not allowed to smoke in it been like that for a bit now.
Are you sure that's the case? This site suggests otherwise.

The UK smoking ban

First it says that:
"You can't smoke in a company vehicle that is used by several people; even if they are not in it at the time"

Seems perfectly sensible, and then it goes on to say:
"You can smoke in your own car, or a company vehicle that you alone drive."

Looks like V14 might be free to light up, then.

What i was told by a nice white hat when the smoking ban came in was that if the vehicle was registered in a company name then it was considered to be for use by multiple users.

I'll look into it now sdd.

thanks.

i smoke, but it is my choice to and not others and i consider myself a considerate smoker, the only place in my house that gets smoked in is my computer room

i dont smoke near people who arent smoking anyways

im sure i read that tax on smokers brings in more than double what the nhs costs

would all the ex/non smokers be happy if it was banned outright--the lost tax would have to be found someware so you would end up being hit in the pocket due to us not being able to light up

why ban in every car if not every car has a child in it? and dont give me that adult passive smoking shit adults decide for themselves if they want to go in the car or not knowing the driver is a smoker . after all their probably bumming a lift Lol

:wtf:

i am an x smoker and have been for8 yrs now
i never stop ppl smoking if they want
ok it looks as thought the government and others want u to stop smoking in cars
lets say ok we will if u the government stop smoking in parliment
they still smoke in there??? wtf
i do belive in not smoking where children are
so i would be up for a ban on smoking in a car if children where in the car
but for adults who do have a right to say no let them carry on

as stated if everybody stops smaoking
ppl live longer they then have to pay outstanding taxes to pay for the drop in revenune from smokers

this country is paid for by tax on smokes
tax on petrol
and tax on drink
if everybody became a goody goody and stoped smoking drinking and driving
u would have to pay 80p in the pound income tax

Dear Mr Walker,

Thank you for your recent email to the Department of Health about the
revenue generated from tobacco sales. I have been asked to reply.

It is very difficult to establish an exact figure on what smoking related
ill-health costs the NHS. However, smoking is the largest single cause of
preventable illness and premature death in the UK. It kills 106,000
people every year and costs the British taxpayer more than -L-£1.7billion a
year in treatment bills alone. It causes 84 per cent of deaths from lung
cancer and 83 per cent of deaths from chronic obstructive lung disease,
including bronchitis.

Well I hate smoking pal, since I saw the contents of my Mums lungs being pumped out while she was in intensive care, but putting that aside I never knew the balance sheet showed that smokers actually make money.

Makes you see why they wont ban it outright then.

:)

Does not take into account lost productivity, people living shorter so paying less taxes and I am sure a whole host of other things on both sides of the equation.

As somebody else mentioned, if you have seen the effects on somebody you care for then there is little argument for it.

Thats exactly what V14 meant, how idiotic is it that he cannot smoke in his works van when he is the ONLY person in it, yet he is free to smoke in his car if his kids or anyone else is in it.

I am a smoker, I do not smoke at work...even in smoking areas, I do not smoke in my house because it stinks the place out, I do not smoke in the club because I am not allowed but I do smoke outside in my back garden when there is no one else there or if friends that smoke are at my house who also smoke.
WELL SAID THAT man ..2 many ppl talking shite on this thread .. i could name a few but there always right ?? ya no who u r lol
if ya want to smoke its up to u ... and any decent parent would make sure there kids stay out the way >>> we dont need goverment to tell us how to bring kids up or ppl ??? ya only need to look at jon venabeles to work out were better than them ...
