XP delay problem

I have a kind of strage problem with my pc, am running Windows XP PRO.

When I boot the pc up, if I click on my net connection , to connect to ISP, the dial up box does not appear for about a minute, and after some hard disk activity.

If I leave the pc for 2 mins after booting before clicking on the icon, it opens straight away.

It only seems to be the net connection that is affected.

Any other tasks are carried out without delay, open Word etc , or explore hard disk.

I am lost as to what this is, Any ideas?

what type off connection do you have <br />eg: dial up modem<br /> cable modem <br /> adsl ?

to find out what is running as u go for dial up press control alt & del key to bring up the windows task manager the the use the dial up u can then check what may be slowing ur system

If you are using a dial up manager like what cable provide then try making a new connection under Dial-up Networking and try it directly from there instead.

Defrag the Hard Drive and see what happens....this once cured a similar problem for me m8 <img src="graemlins/dizzy.gif" border="0" alt="[dizzy]" /> <img src="graemlins/dizzy.gif" border="0" alt="[dizzy]" />

Seemed to have got it sorted.

The net connection on IE6 contol panel appeared to be set up as a LAN conection.

I guess XP was looking for this when I started up the pc and that is why it would not open connection.

Changed it to dial up and problem has gone.

Thanks for the help and advice.

All the Best
