Wotsat TM800 1st impression.

So in theory, if we install all the images that are released for personal test purposes, are we more likely to end up with bits and bobs left over from old images? - hence slowing our receiver down?
yes mate, you are begining to see things :) this is what we have been trying to say for months and months

every receiver at one point was a virgin, yet the software was loaded on pre sale

Would it be risky to re-fully virgin a box, and trust that the end user could install the software from scratch.

or do you think they hold back this option maybe for warranty reasons, with people bricking there kit??

ring TM up tomorrow mate they have all the answers ;)

I can never see Wotsat giving a biased review of any technomate box as they seem to be the magazines biggest advertiser generally 7 full pages every issue

since the tm800 HD has been on sale Wotsat has reviewed 2 newer boxes from technomate so why wait over a year to review the box?

Future to sell or close eight magazines | Media | guardian.co.uk
What Satellite will be closed soon.

Future Publishing is to sell or close eight of its magazines, including Hi-Fi Choice and What Satellite & Digital TV, as it battles against a fall in profits.

The publisher, which employs 1,000 people in Bath, told staff on Friday that there would be up to 100 redundancies as it admitted problems with its US business will wipe £2m from its full years earnings.

In an email to staff on Tuesday, Future's UK chief executive, Mark Wood, confirmed that the titles to be sold or closed were DVD & Blu-Ray Review, Hi-Fi Choice, What Satellite & Digital TV, Home Cinema Choice, London Tech Guides & Bookazines, Photoshop Focus Guides, Nitro and Redline.

"These decisions have not been taken lightly but are vital if we are to maintain the momentum of our business," Wood said in the email to staff.

"This recalibration of our business is crucial to ensure faster adaptation to digital and more efficient execution of print. This is the strategy which will best position Future for the long term, and I appreciate your continued focus and hard work during this period of change."

In May, Future announced a 45% slump in pre-tax profits in the six months to March as its US business struggled and advertising revenue fell by 15%. The publisher is reorganising its UK business as its US operation moves to a "primarily digital" strategy.

Wood added: "The focus of the review has been to ensure our resources are concentrated in those areas where we are strongest and where we see the brightest future long term.

"As you know, given the backdrop of declining newsstand revenues – and the imperative to invest in digital – Future needs to adapt to work even more efficiently across its print and growing digital portfolio."

Straight from the horses mouth :)

Unfortunately here at Wotsat we don't buy our review samples, they're supplied by the manufacturers and UK dealers. We've known about the TM-800 HD for as long as you all have, but the sample only arrived very recently and went to the front of our queue. There's no politics involved, at least not on our side.

There is a very simple solution to the problem of junk on the box - provided you have access to a virgin box with the latest image.

1. install latest image
2. list all files
2. create a shell script which uses the list to compare users box files against the list and delete any files not on the list.

But I must stress that the initial list must be done on a perfect, new box. Once created the script could be added on to the installation process by placing in /etc/init.d/ with a final line that removes the script. That way it would run once during the initial boot and then remove itself. It is a technique commonly used by application installers.
