I've just installed an extension to my Virgin phone line for Sky Multiroom. The extension is wired to pins 2 and 5 and works fine; I can dial in and out and it even rings too. However, the master socket no longer works unless I remove the face plate and plug the phone into the socket which the face plate plugs into, at which point the phone works (and of course the extension does not).

Could the wiring be incorrect on the master socket end of the extension and the extension still work? The thing that I'm am slightly confused about is that the face plate has 1-6 printed on the plastic, but only 4 pins for the cables, which I assumed to be 2,3,4,5 and wired as such.

Any advice for a newbie to the forum?

cheers,
Steve.

when i extend sockets, all i use is blue and blue/white

these are hard wired if necessary into sockets using "blue into 2" and "white/blue into 5"

the orange is a ring wire and no longer needed.
