Wireless USB adapter

Theres a list somewhere of which wireless chipset drivers are integrated/supported in the TM800HD image.

You need to findout which wireless chipset that dongle uses,and check if the TM800HD image contains the relevant driver..otherwise it's not going to work.

That DX Dongle appears to be a Realtek chipset RTL8192 or 8188C/U. So if the TM800HD image includes this driver should be good to go...

RT 2870 sta is the chip that supports on TM800 hd.if you google you can find those compatible dongles

is there any way to install Ralink RT73′ or ‘ZD1211B’ chipset USB drivers on TM 800 hd?I can not find any mipsel.ipk file anywhere

Bargain if it works...hey you even buy can 4 of them and it will be cheaper then the TM offiical WiFi adaptor which doesnt appear to work properly anyway despite costing 50 quid + P+P :Clap:

If the problem is with the software recognising the type of encryption of the wifi signal (which it is, but only when it tries to auto detect it) then it wont matter if you pay $1 or £500 for a wifi adaptor, as the software still wont recognise the encryption of the signal that the wifi is receiving, wifi on the tm800 works.

i will buy one of the dealextreme ones though, whats it work out, about £8? and see if i can merge the drivers into the actual linux kernel that the tm800 runs on ;)

Cons: No real cons other than having to compile a driver for my Linux distro, the source code is included on the CD.

Other Thoughts: I imagine the necessary code will make it to the Linux kernel soon, most Realtek wireless stuff gets in there eventually.

Wish you good luck on getting help to get this working. I have tried to get my working and I can't get the driver to recognise the dongle. Jimux has assisted me on this a few times but we had no success. The image does recognise that the usb device is present but it does not assign the driver to the usb device. I could not find a way to get the usb device id to be assigned to driver. Need linux expert to help if you want to get this working.

i wouldnt say for you to throw it as i believe the adapter you have does have the supported chipset however unless someone who has got a dongle working appears here to confirm i dont believe you will get help in getting it working with the the TM800.

i'm no linux expert but i believe the image would need an automount script for wireless usb adapters which contain the relevant chipset then you would be able to progress with configuring the device to the internet.

usb wifi is supported but only on very specific devices. i have the exact source codes needed to make a vast number of devices work, not only on the tm800, but on ANY enigma2 based receiver, but i do not have the knowledge or experience needed to turn this source code into compiled linux drivers for the devices.

from the lists i have, this would add compatibility for around 430 usb wifi devices to enigma2 receivers based on compiling 2 driver packages

but all of this stuff im looking into to try and get this working is very cloak and dagger for some reason, and the deeper i look into things like this, the more i see that the people who matter, aint actually into it for 'the hobby'

Can you share this informations, I will tray to do some tests, if we works in group we may find a solution.

When you say usb wifi is supported on some devices, shouldn't it be all the ones which have the RT2870 chipset.

Do you mean only a few that contain the chipset are supported?
 
Just out of interest, why would anyone buy a wifi equipped receiver and then choose not to buy the wifi module??

The internal twin antenna solution is far better than any usb peripheral and works very well (as long as you observe the encryption limitations)
