i personally set up the basics outside the case first,start it up if everything runs then move it to the case,there`s nothing more frustrating than having to take everything back out of the case and starting over again.

thanks im gonna with all that, is there anything else important i should know about installing motherboard apart from formatting hard drive? i have a 64 bit version of vista ultimate which i want to change from xp which i m running on now, is it a case of just booting from dvd-rom in bios at start up? does xp automatically delete itself?

chances of screen burn on an lcd very unlikely,though there will be a warning in the manual

thought i'd revive this thread.
ordered the gigabyte 690g motherboard, x2 5000 and 2 gig ram. comes tomorrow.

my htpc died in a big way - been on its last legs for a while. (5v line kept burning atx power connector)
