Hi all,

I have a spider box that I use mainly to watch the 3 pm football via clines.

A friend has asked me to set up a similar (motorised) system for him. Instead of using a spider box I would like to try a Technomate.
It will have to be HD and able to accept clines (unless there is another way to get the football channels).
I have searched for what an image is, as I am not sure what this refers to. Are there any guides anywhere as to what images do and how to install clines into a recomended box.

Thanks in anticipation

JP

a nice simple one is the TM5402, does newcamd and cccam based connecting, has youtube, internet radio, porntube, media player, including full DivX support, and best of all, 7 day EPG direct from the satellite data stream.

patching the receiver is done via a usb stick, as is adding channel settings and C line details

Cheers Digidude, I'll do a bit of research on how to set it up

TM 800 or TM 5402? much difference between these two? I have found quite a few guides on settng up the 800.

5402 is closed source and does most of what it is meant to.

The 800 is linux based but the software on it is very poor. It does not do most of what it is meant to do. They have said they will work on it, but less said about TM's claims the better.

I think I will steer towards the 5402.
Reading on a few forums the 800 it seems there are a few issues with the 800.
I have a spider box myself which requires very little updating for what I want (3pm football).

The TM will be for a friend. I could just get a spider box for him, but by doing that I wont be learning anything new. My only concern is once the 5402 has been set up how often is it necessary to update with patches etc. The guy mainly wants it to watch the 3pm footy, so I am hoping he will be happy provided he can access these channels.

ia all you want to do is watch TV, then the TM800 is fine, its media player works (in fact last night i watched a x264 SD file all the way through on a TM800 that the 5402 would only play 20 mins of) and it has EPG via rytec, if you want more advanced plugins to run, then it will not handle them.

access to channels will depend on 'how' your friend gets access to specific channels, but, if you was to have some form of server connection for example, then youd get the same channels on both receivers

I know you asked about a TM box but have you thought about a DM800SE ? with these you can add lots of plugins for various things and they are good hobbyist boxes :)

please stay well clear of the TM800 or any TM linux box as they are far from stable, Ive read even with watching TV the box will just green screen and need a re flash, as this is for a friend its not a box to recommend
Im not up on there standard boxes too well but I have read posts where even there users are getting frustrated, have a good read of the TM sections before parting with your money

:)

it too would recommend a dreambox or vu+ receiver, great support and loads of add ons.

If you had a Spiderbox ...TM Non Linux can not much that That only Less....This for sure..
If you go for Linux...buy Vu plus Duo or Solo ..is much better then any TM Linux for sure.

if you want a closed source then a tm5402hd is a good buy, for linux then a dm800hdse or vu+solo(both clones) are excellent boxs for the money. if money isnt a issue then a vu+uno would be a good choice. the tm800hd has been let down by poor SW support and the twin although better still isnt complete. it all depends on your m8,s preferences... take a look at the protek 9700/9710, its hd and comes with a unlimited time gift and support is second to none from the dark forces. regards mdt

steer clear of the tm800 the vu box is an excellent choice

Cheers everyone for the comments. When I finally replace my Spider I think I will go for a VU box. For my friend he wants something basic to watch the footy. I think I have got my head around all the guides on how to set the 5402 up,so I think I will go with that one. Thanks again for all the advise:Biggrin2:
