VU+ Duo Vu+ remote control setup

Just reimaged my vu+ duo and noticed my remote control doesn't work - although it lights up when i press the buttons. Ive read a few codes saying i need to press and hold 1+6 and then 996 or 2+7 then enter 0001 but i cant get it to work although i did originally have to do something like this when i got this replacement control but lost the paper work. Any ideas?

ive noticed the red led on the box isnt on when i try changing channel, could the IR be faulty? or does that only come on after you sync a remote control to it?

It seems the remote does not work with the newer images, i put on an old vix 1.3 and the remote works fine!?

Im guessing its because this is a cheap remote from ebay that it doesn't work on the new images? i have a mate who has an original remote will try that on a newer image and report back.
