Hope someone is still reading these, out there!

A lot of the responses don't look terribly "retro" to me, but having started as an adolescent with Pong, I'm probably one of the most retro fans here.

Below are my least to most favorite in the most "retro" period I can recall. The early 1980s. Arcade only:

5. Tempest/Centipede (Toss-up)
4. Galaga
3. Burger Time
2. Star Wars (Cockpit Version)
1. Asteroids Deluxe

I must have spent hundreds of dollars a month in quarters ($20 at a time, several days a week) at the Video Zone arcade next to Eastern Michigan University in the early-to-mid 80's playing these games.

No home version could compare to the arcade experience back then and, at the time, I wouldn't even bother with a home console of any kind.

It wasn't until 1995 that I got any kind of console - that was the short-lived Sega Saturn (w/ Arcade-Style "Virtua Stick" controller), which played my favorite game at the time: Virtua Fighter. Which was (and remains) the best fighting game of all time.

Now, having purchased & owned either the Arcade version or PC versions of all my favorite games, I now thoroughly enjoy playing them to my heart's content in one place, using MAME w/ an X-Arcade Solo stick, which faithfully emulates the Arcade experience.

Life is good.

5. Super Double Dragon
4. Street Fighter 2 Turbo

All depends on your age really

PacMan
Space Invaders
Gorf
Asteroids
Scramble

No particular order, there is a lot more but thats why I have a full install of MAME then I have a choice of over 4500 arcade games to play

But haven't gone as far as making a cabinet purely for MAME, but do admit there are some fantastic DIY arcade cabinets that would be the centre point in most 'classic' arcades

Blimey, this is difficult... Top 50 would be much easier.

1/ Mario Kart (SNES) ...incidentally it's just been released on VC for the Wii :)
2/ Tetris (Gameboy)
3/ Jet Set Willy (Spectrum)
4/ Kick Off 2 (ST)
5/ Out Run (coin-op)

There's plenty that I wanted to include just cause I used to spend hours upon hours playing them, e.g. Firelord, Paperboy, Bounty Bob Strikes Back, Midwinter, Lotus Esprit Challenge, Street Fighter, Space Harrier (it rocked on the Master System!), Sonic, Super Mario Bros, Zelda, etc...

....Damn, I forgot Golden Eye too!

Top 5 is very very hard... Top 10 would be easier! As someone mentioned before, it also depends how old you are

All old Amiga classix

5. Terramex
4. Hostages
3. Rocket Ranger
2. Wings
1. Mega-lo-Mania
