Management of expectations (especially in a client - project environment) is key.
I always try and find out as much as I can about anyone before we take on any project... you learn to work out people in a way.
Expectations high, your delivery needs to be high!
Expectations medium your delivery needs to be high (then you have just over achieved) ---> this is when recommendations start!
Expectations Low your delivery needs to be high (same as above but better)!
Meeting expectations is the key.
Delivering higher is a bonus and something you should be trying to achieve.
Not meeting expectations can happen to anyone, I guess it's how your clients expects things to be done... they also probably have no clue about the job in hand!
If you generally achieve a high standard, but on an occasion deliver lower, this might not even be your fault...
you need to understand the person the project before you commence your delivery, and then and only then can you even begin to know if expectations will be met!
You also need to be able to spot the client from hell and turn the job down.
His/her expectations can never be met.
If you expect something, then there is a bigger chance that something you don't expect happens. so how do you plan for that thing you can't expect? Discuss!
The known knowns. The known unknowns. The unknowns knowns. The unknown unknowns.
Does anyone know about not knowing whether knowing is knowing or is it best to let people know about it.
