in the top right of the power board in the middle of the set, there should be a few electrolytic capacitors (small cylinders) are the tops of these swollen at all? if so, thats the problem, they need replacing

this is a common fault

no they look fine got the power board out and visibally looks ok just when you plug it in it gets a little whine noise quietly tho

as digidude says its more than likely your powerboard problem, however it may not be the caps, on some sammy lcds there is a problem with the flash rom / eeprom chip which will not allow it to come out of standby , you can basically short a couple of pins, t power it on, power it off and then unshort them, and power back on again.

not saying this is your problem, but i had same issue with a telly recently, this fixed it.

mine does not make a clicking sound or out just when you try to turn it on it wont just stays in stanby as if its not getting enough power the buttons on front dont work but if press standby button on remote the red light goes of and does not power up

the link u posted isnt any good
it is on your computer
you need to upload it to dw the picture

click on post reply the scroll down to manage attachments click on it then click browse and browse to where ur picture is the click upload when finished click submit reply

connect it back up, and with the POWER OFF blast the crap out of the caps in the bottom left of the picture with a hair dryer for 2 mins, then try and turn on, if no joy, leave 5 mins to cool, then blast the ones in the top left of the pic, and try again, and lastly try the ones in top middle of pic

electrolytics as they fail, respond to heat, so this will let you know if they are indeed the problem

it could also be the invertor board though (long board down one side of the rear of the screen)

this sounds like discolouration of the tubes behind the lcd screen itself. theres very thin flourescent tubes, like in kitchens and offices, behind the lcd screen, these light up white, and the lcd screen changes colour to create the picture that you see

but like the tubes in offices, the filaments in each end can burn the ends of the tubes, and this is the dark marks you see on the sides of the screen

the tubes can be replaced, but its a royal pain in the arse as the tv has to be complatley stripped down, and the fragile tubes that are about 2.5mm wide slid out and new ones put in, without breaking anything or getting any dust anywhere

most people put up with the dark patches untill the tube goes completley, then you have a dark top of the screen, and then they buy a new tv as the prices have fallen over the last 2 years

the yellow thing is a transformer*, these do 'hum' if you can hear it going 'on and off' then that means the power is going on and off to it, or being drained from it

this would be caused by a capacitor charging (as theyre meant to) but then losing its charge (which theyre not meant to) heating them up causes the electrolyte inside them to work for a short while, so try the hair dryer to see if heating one part of the board can temp fix the set

*its not a decepticon, so its not going to clone itself with the toaster, or the tv remote, and try to take over your house, its not a good guy either, so if the decepticons do come knocking, it wont really help you, its just a few wire coils ;)

to me looks like the large cap in the middle is blown

there cold cathodes, slightly different than standard house flourescant ones (as they are cold, or cool to the touch).

with regards to my post, the symptoms are not constrained to just clicking, its basically not coming out of standy, worth a shot, i fixed my mates, near same problem and no clicking, just wouldnt come out of standby.....

dont that eprom thingy and the red light was on and the yellow glow light at bottom of tv came on this time but still got no screen
