this was actually already posted on the 1st page 2nd post please read posts before adding something as repetition is not liked

Another useful command if you are not wanting the logon screen in xp in the run box type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes. it will bring up more logon controls so that you can set an account to automatically login

netstat -a does not always mean spyware problems.
If you are downloading, specifically from torrent sites or emule for example you will get lots of entries...... LOTS.

Have you tried searching for it in your windows directory

on my system found msconfig.exe in 2 places

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries

If you can find the file on your system, then i would think that your PATH statement has been altered. Have a look in System Properties / Advanced / Enviorment Variables

Format C/u: =Formats the COmputers Drive C beyond recovery: ie. if you selling your old drive you might want to use this method of format so it erases it properly so that some one cant use recovery software to steel your data. Takes a little longer to format -erase- but its worth it.

nOT TRUE MATE YOU CAN FORMAT UPTO 8 TIME IN THIS WAY AND STILL RECOVER I DO FORENSICS ;)

I'd love to do a job like that, bet its right interesting to do..

Really care to share what proggy u use for this?? And just out of interest what do you reccommend to blank a HD properly??

Cheers
Tidyant

You can't use software mate once its been blanked like 8 times, it has to be done via hardware there is a company is germnay that trace back the magnetic track. Basically its a bit like a etch a sketch you know when you use one and after a while it leaves faint lines? Well a hard disk is the same it leaves a magnetic residue and this hardware can follow these tracks and recover the data very complex stuff and expensive as well.

To destroy data on a hard disk is very hard format after format does not really help, if the military wanna destroy information they have a magentic field box or something. They put the hard disk in it and it basically breaks it as magnetic field is so strong however it can cause you to become sterile its that strong.

Anyway i've known cases were people have smashed there hard disk in pieces making it useless to recover data but it is possible to extract segments of binary from the ram and reconstruct images etc and ASCII. If you wanna know more pm me.

Oh best way to destroy data on a hard disk mate is DEFRAG it and fill it with very large files then encrypt those large files. Not that a encourage this makes a forensic analyst job absolute nightmare

As for programs Forensic Toolkit this is a good little program, Forensic X Ways which is good for steganography and Encase which is what the police use. All these are expensive mate and very hard to get hold of.

sndvol32 - opens the volume control, handy if you don't have it in the system tray because you change volume using hardware but some annoying app mutes it or alters otherwise

not exactly a run command but good for making a shortcut to

shutdown -s -t 00

immeadiatly shuts down the computer
change number for delay in secs. and change -s to -r for reboot

Xcopy

xcopy /c is especially useful, because it continues after an error (such as a file sharing error) where explorer ALWAYS terminates.

This was originally touted as a hidden version of star wars in windows xp but ive since learned its a connection to a remote site in Netherlands but it pretty cool none the less.
Entire first movie of star wars written in ASCI

Just go start-> run and type "telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl" without speech marks let it connect and watch star wars in asci.

To think i used to own a commodore 16 which wasnt to dissimilar to the graphics on this star wars version lol.
