Woman referee at centre of Sky sexism row pulled out of Saturday's match as shamed Andy Gray and Richard Keys are set to join Al Jazeera
The referee’s assistant at the centre of a Sky sexism scandal has been withdrawn from her match this weekend – while shamed presenters Richard Keys and Andy Gray are on the verge of landing a new job.
Official Sian Massey was due to take charge of Corby Town against Eastwood in the Blue Square North Division.
But she has been pulled out of the fixture after a surge in interest from television crews wanting to cover the game.
The 25-year-old P.E. teacher became embroiled in a sexism row last weekend after Richard Keys and Andy Gray suggested she did not know the offside rule last weekend.
They also criticised West Ham vice-chairman and Apprentice star Karren Brady.
The duo are on the verge of joining Al Jazeera – and Keys, 53, is expected in Qatar this afternoon for talks with the broadcaster.
He is expected to be negotiating on behalf of Gray, 55.
A source told the Evening Standard: ‘Richard is out there at the moment. It is fair to say there is interest on Al Jazeera's part. It's not beyond the realms of possibility - they both have friends in Doha.’
Al Jazeera is an international news network based in Doha, Qatar, which initially launched as an Arabic news channel.
It is the first English language news channel in the Middle East and the broadcaster has secured the rights to broadcast the next three football World Cups in North Africa and the Middle East
Yesterday Mr Keys’ wife Julia, 51, said ‘the wrong guys had been given the red cards’ as she carried out cups of tea to reporters outside their mansion in Chobham, Surrey.
‘With men there are little bits of you that never grow up,’ she said.
‘It’s banter from the boys. What other people do not understand is the dynamics that go on in the studio.
